272 or 280

Hey guys...Finally decided to toss the revolvers and get HKS. My question is which set should I get...272's or the 280's???

you have to determine what your goals are going to be. if your going to stick with the stock turbo and dont want a lopey idle, get 272, or 264 intake 272 exhaust. if you want all out performance and drivablility or idle isnt a issue, get the 280
btw i have a 264 intake an 272 exhaust fs if interested, located in norcal too

Well whats the most important thing for you? Going for gold and living with the lope of big cams or having a peaceful car that you dont crenge every time you have to run a errand or pick up a friend. Also what are your end plans? Got a roadmap or just want to mod if you can spare a few for whats out there? For 9/10ths of the people I talk to, while they have visions of unlimited power with no consequences they are best served by a 264E/272I or the flip of that if they want a bit of lope. 272s for guys wanting the most power on a stage 1+++ combo (10.5 hotside/TME/ waiting for one of the 20Gs, FMIK, some headwork ect.) Guys that should use 280s are the groundbreakers running high cylinder pressures with aggressive cam gear timing, meth, plans for big turbos, and dont mind a modified car.

280's + Cam Gears
you can always swift the power band with the Cam Gears !
look at Ted B's Dyno with 280s he did it with +2, 0
they start makeing power even earlier than the 264s

I will upgrade to a bigger turbo later on, but no in the near future. Will the 280's perform good on the stock turbo? My mods so far is intake, dp, exhaust, Aem cam gears, reflash. I don't mind the lopy idle as long as the car doesn't seem like it's about to stall or even stall.

Your car will try to stall on the stock MAF. Mine tries so hard to stall, youll have to raise your idle to around 1000-1200 rpms as well. If your going to upgrade the turbo in the near future stick with 280s otherwise if your gonna keep the stocker for a year or so keep the 272s. I love the 280s but they give a high pitched whine in the valve cover and try to stall all the time. Adding more fuel down low would help as well.

David do you have any comments on the overall drivability and powerband that Ted B's car made??????

I would like to know more about this setup and and the overall effect of his cam gear settings with those cams

Dave said FMIK

Anyways, I have 264/264 and it makes great power (possibly the most power?) on the stock turbo while suffering no driveability loss. Although if I were to get a turbo I'd get 280s...
