COBB Street Tuner doing S.M.A.R.T like things....

So is the COBB ST doing the same sort of active timing that SMART does with the XEDE....

"Ignition Advance control
Direct control of Ignition Timing (spark advance). Includes additional "auto-tuning" Timing Advance capability that increases Ignition Timing according to detected knock."

Isn't this built into every WRX's ECU (short-term and long-term spark advance)?. I don't think it's instantaneous like SMART though. Does Cobb just tune the maps that are there?

Yeah, it was my impression that the stock WRX ECU already had a timing advance offsets (short and long term) which are adjusted based on observed knock. This is in contrast to the Evo which just has like two set timing maps. Neither of these is the same as smart which allows you to specify a an authority range and a rate in which to force the timing to converge to that range.

oh yeah.....I forgot about that...I dont think they have the ability to add extra things.

This is probably refering to the IAM and short/long term fuel correction.......but what do I know.
