firmware question...

okay, isn't everything (maps, map banks) supposed to clear if you do a firmware update, kinda like "formatting" a harddrive? I've been having problems with my XEDE lately and tried doin a firmware update, but whatever map I have burned into the EEPROM at the time of the firmware update is still there when the update is finished...

If this is not the case, is there a way to completely remove all maps from the XEDE? I tried to "Delete Map/Map Banks" but whenever I selct the bank, it gives me an error code...

This thing is frustrating me....ever since I tried screwin around with launch control, my XEDE has been actin up, even tho I removed the LC map. It doesn't matter what map I have loaded up, the LED starts out green, but as soon as I hit the gas, it turns amber. Well while it's amber it won't boost past 10-12 psi, but if I stay on the gas it turns green all of a sudden again and jumps up to the 21-22 psi it's supposed to go to..it's weired, it does it in every gear...kinda like gets hung up at around 12 psi...while the LED is amber, than clears and resumes normal operation...

I had a similar problem when I first installed teh XEDE but a firmware re-install solved the problem then, but it's not workin now...I can't get this thing to operate correctly...

BTW, Shiv, if you are listening, I sent ya a PM on this...hopin to be down there on Monday...I'm bout to use this XEDE as a fetch toy for my dogs....lol...not knockin the XEDE..it works beautiful..when it's workin....

That's a pretty good analogy actually -- especially if you know anything about computer filesystems.

Um, that shouldn't be happening. You are connecting the boot wire to a 12v source and doing the little on->off->start ignition dance, right? The _first_ thing that should happen is a an erase which will delete anything loaded by the user.

I'm not exactly sure what the 'remove' map feature in xmap does, but I'm fairly certain that it is not what you think. What the Xede reference docs refer to as a 'map', we call a table.

You do have the two leads of the map bank switch wire seperated and _INSULATED_ right? The problem that you're describing could be caused by the switch wires becoming momentarily in contact. That would load the second bank (which probably doesn't have a map) and cause the LED to go orange as well as boost to revert to spring pressure (10-12 psi).

Yep, I connect the wire to a 12v source and it goes thru as if it's updating...ya know, erasing, programming, verifying, etc..

As for the map switch, I actually have it hooked to a real switch that is comepletely insulated and in the correct position, tha was one of the first things I checked.

I have a feeling like I may have a bad EEPROM. When I was first having this problem, I talked to Dustin and he said he has encountered a FEW XEDE's that get bad EEPROM and don't hold a map right, which was happeing at first, the XEDE would just dump my maps, even tho I uploaded AND burned. A firmware re-update solved it the first time, but whoi know why it won't work now. The only difference is, I know have the SMART upgrade in the system.

But I've verified on a quite a few attempts, my map will not erase when doing a firmware update.

Cool, just checking.

That doesn't rule out the situation that I described. Radio shacks generic switches, in particular, are known to not always provide the persistant state. I use one and it's really not very reliable. i'd pull the leads and wrap them in electrical tape -- just in case.

Quite possible. I can't think of anything but a hardware problem that would cause that kind of behavior. If you can afford the downtime, maybe send it in.
