flash for cams question

I recently got the Vishnu flash for 272/272 cams and no cam gears with other BBO (TBE). The car idled kind of lopey but nothing to crazy, but I decided to get cam gears and set to -4/-1 to smooth out my idle and shift my power band. Now my car idles really really bad, and likes to stall out half the time. Would I have to send back my ECU to vishnu to get tuned for cam gears (-4/-1) and fix my idle? Or would the mail in flash not make a difference. I'd rather not since I just spent money to get it flashed for the cams already. Thanks.

I would guess that your car should idle fine with or without a tune. You may need to adjust your idle to keep the revs up though.

A tune pretty much only changes timing and fuel curves during heavy throttle. I doubt it will do much for you at idle unless it tunes your fuel trims for a higher base idle.

There are companies that will mail-in reflash your ECU for existing customers free if you have already paid for the initial flash, all you pay is shipping. Try that route first.

how would i adjust my idle to keep the revs up? the needle moves up and down pretty constantly so I don't know if raising it would do anything.

Try disconnecting your battery, doing this will reset all adaptation in your ecu.

i did reset the battery. idle still like poop. weird. I thought setting to -4/-1 was suppose to make it idle like stock. is the vishnu mail in flash prefer a different cam gear setting?

try -2/-2, I run -3/-1 with best results on 264/272

Check for a cam gear installation error.

Did the car idle fine on the 272's before the flash?

if you did everything @ once, maybe the cam trigger is installed 180deg out? I heard that may attribute to poor idle.

Just open up the air bypass screw a little bit more.

Which way did you move the notch on the inner part of the cam gear, toward front of the car or toward the back (looking at cam gears from passenger side)?

WOT - The car was lopey before the cam gears, when I just had the 272/272's in. But it was a consistent lopey and never stalled. Now the idle is more a wild lopey with the rev's going up and down at idle.

EVO 8 - I moved the cam gears toward the front of the car.

Like if the numbers are shown below on the cam gear, my intake (-4) would be:

12 | | | | |.....| | | | 0 | | | | ..... | | | | | 12
------------------------------ ^------------------
Inner cam gear mark would point here

And forgot to mention I have fidanza cam gears, if that makes any difference.

Thanks for the hellp so far guys. Just trying to figure this thing out.

Viet, that's advancing timing. You need to move the notch the other way.

Wrong way ! Move it towards the back and it'll run like stock.
I think I've read somewhere that advancing cams causes predetonation which is bad for the engine.
