Question Installing cam gears

OK guys,

I need some help. I bought my Vishnu cam gears several months ago and have not had a chance to install them. I've been researching this forum for install tips. It seems the reference point on the cam gears are not the "0" mark. On this forum, I've seen pictures of a "red" mark on the cam gears. Maybe I'm a retard. But, the problem is that my cam gears have no red mark. They have no mark whatsoever. I have no idea how to align them. Any ideas?

Thanks.

Question No timing marks on Vishnu cam gears

Thanks Sackett,

That's a good article for an install. The problem is that there are no timing marks on my Vishnu cam gears - no marks at all. I'm not sure how to proceed. I'm hoping one of the Vishnu guys can help out.

Thanks again.

Unhappy No red mark on my Vishnu gears

I've seen that thread already. In the thread it states:

"If you install the Vishnu gears, you have to set your stock ones at TDC. When you remove your stockers and put in the Vishnu set, the red mark on the Vishnu cams will allign at TDC. Your stock gears also have a mark, but they are black. The black or red marks are just used as a reference because it helps you find the exact timing allignment on your car."

The problem is that there is no red mark on my gears. There are no reference marks at all. Should I assume that the reference tooth is the one directly to the right of the "0" on both gears (as pictured). In the picture, the tooth next to the "0" on the gear is red. My gears have no red mark. They have no reference mark at all. I'll take a picture when I get home from work late tonight. You can see that there are no reference marks.

Thanks again for the help. Although, I'm not sure it answers my question.

Still confused.

Yup, this is correct.

So there are no degree marks on the outter gear or no degree indicator mark on the inner gear?

I think he has those marks. He just wasn't sure on what tooth to align with the timing marks since there was no red mark on the gears.

There are no hash marks/degree marks at all? I find it near impossible that a blank set of gears made it out of the shop, let alone TO the shop from their fabricator. If you're just saying that there is just no red mark, well it's simple. You just find the centerline on the vishnu gears, then move one tooth to the right and that is your reference tooth that you'll use to align the gears.

Thumbs up

Thanks for all the replys,

I may have explained myself incorrectly. I have the negative 12 (-12) to zero (0) to positive 12 (+12) degree indicator marks. I was unsure of what tooth to align with the timing marks. I have no "red dot" or no dot at all on my gears. Just to confirm, it is the tooth directly to the right of the zero (0) degree indicator tooth on both gears. It would be helpful if Vishnu provided that information with the gears.

Thanks again for the help.

No prob

I had the same issue with my gears when I received them many moons ago. Found that picture I showed you then just marked my cam gears with whiteout before the install.
