Bench Upgrade XEDE to SMART

I presently have my XEDE and harness removed from my car. I have just purchased SMART and am looking to upgrade it. Is there any way to do this using my PC inside my home rather than standing on my head modifying the harness in the passenger side of my Evo?

I am assuming that at the very least I will need a 12v power source?

Is this even worth doing or is it more of a nuissance doing it this way.

Thanks,

I think it is better to just reprogram the Xede in the car. That is unless you don't have a laptop handy. Note that it would appear that the Xede needs a 14v programming voltage during firmware updates.

With respect to modifying the harness in the car, you clearly could do the changes on the bench with a few trips to the car to determine wire lengths. Or you could order connectors and build up your own plug-and-play harness. Refer to Dustin's example in another thread.

Thanks for the response. I figured it might be more trouble than it was worth but since I had everything out of the car I figured I would ask.

NO- I do not think you can do that!

You have to start the car at one point in the programming/updating cycle.
