Can I wire a status LED into the map switch wires?

Rough idea...

Maybe this would work?

Cajun, that would definitely work.

Freedom, I measured the voltage with the ignition on, but did not start the car. Will it rise to +5 V with the car running? I assume that with "causing the map to switch" you mean that if the LED draws too much current, then the XEDE will switch back to map bank 0, correct?

Donour, the left keyswitch (momentary) is to calibrate the LC-1, the right keyswitch is to switch XEDE maps (key is only removable in position 1 - i.e. map bank 0).

There is a voltage regulator in the Xede that generates the +5v, so starting the car will not make a difference. What are you using for a meter to measure the voltage? Could the calibration be a little off?

Yes on the second question.

Here is the next ovbious question... What resistor/led would you use?

I did the remote light mod and it already burned out. Worked great for a while. Radio shack is not known for their quality parts.

Just another suggestion... You can buy a 12V LED from Radio Shack and wire your map switch like this. That way you know for sure the current and voltage remains unaltered.

FYI, I wired my LC switch like this so I have a LC armed status LED.

... The led is wired from ground to ground. ;-) The concept is sound.

Actually, it is wired to 12V power on the opposite side of the relay, and then to ground. The relay cannot be grounded through the LED because it can't flow enough current.

Did you figure this out? You've inspired me to do something productive (and non-school-related) over thanksgiving.
