EBC and SMART?

Shiv,

I have an 03 that you have tuned a few times. I have an EBC (SBCID). I know that you like the Xede to control boost. The reason for the separate boost controller is that I like to take the car to the track and have the ability to easily turn down the boost a little (I do not want to have to monitor boost tables with my laptop).

I would like to switch to the SMART on your next trip East. Is it possible to set up my car so the Xede will control boost, but somehow use the EBC to dial the boost down for the track? Alternatively, if you recommend giving the Xede control of the boost, can you convert this back during a tuning day at Turbotrix?

Thanks.

Stephen

You can run a EBC w/ the XEDE and SMART.

It's possible to be able to use both the XEDE and an EBC. You would have to integrate a hose setup w/ the stock boost solenoid. Now, that I think about it, it may over work the stock boost solenoid since it would have to stay open.

I have been running the Xede with the EBC. The question is would I benefit by adding SMART if I continue to manage boost with the EBC? I believe that I would benefit from the SMART monitoring of knock, and fuel, etc. I know that there are many benefits of giving the boost to the Xede (turning down boost in a knock situation), but I just do not want to have to get into tuning this car myself other than turning down the boost for a track event.

SMART users please jump in.

Thanks.

I have SMART....i know the smart boost maps work alittle different behind the scenes, but I don;t think its going to make much difference from your current setup. The smart from what I understand primarily controls timing and fuel through the use of the wide band.....not so much boost. I was running a smart boost map before I even had the wideband hooked up.

SMART doesn't do anything in regard to boost control. It only controls real time timing and fueling. SMART would definitely be a really good addition at track events. Knock monitoring is really nice.

I was doing some reading and thought Shiv added some features relating to boost (short "overboost" in certain circumstances).

In any event, I purchased the SMART and will have it installed at the TT tuning day. I think I will keep the EBC in place.

I have been wondering the same thing myself. I would like to be able to control the EBC's solenoid rather than the stock solenoid.
