Unhappy Few Questions on shifting thru the 1/4, and the NLS!

Just a couple questions for those in the know. I am going to put the Launch control into my XEDE soon, and need some questions answered if possible.

1. Does the Launch control enable the car to leave the line under boost?

2. Does one "dump" the clutch, or "gently" let the clutch out. (without frying it)

3. Does the NLS mean what I think? Keep the gas to the floor, and just shift when indicated?

4. How many people are using, and enjoying this feature?

5. I was told by someone who Drag Races Grand Nationals, that he watches the boost gague ONLY when he drags, and shifts at top boost, no matter where the RPM needle is. Does this make sence? I usually shift when the shift light comes on, but he said if you shift when the motor is at full boost, you will get to the finish line quicker!!???.

I am not a Drag-racer, but want to do a few passes when it gets warm out, and just thought I would ask these questions. As always, Thanks for looking in.

1. Yes. A stock turbo will build around 10 to 12psi with the launch control.

2. I would say don't drop the clutch. It shocks the drivetrain an can be hard on the transfer case, but probably the faster you let it out, the better 60ft you're going to get, so you'll want to try to find some happy medium.

3. Yes

4. I enjoy it for an occasional drag run.

5. I'm no proffesional drag racer, but my guess is that would be a bad idea in an evo. If that is true with the grand national, I would say it has to do more with that car's personality, power curve, and torque curve, that that might be true, but I think the general concensus with the evo is to wait as long as you can to shift to be at the optimum powerband in the next gear.

I dont know much about all of the systems but I do know that Launch control allows you to build boost at the line. NLS means u dont have to lift off the throttle to shift, when u push in the clutch while holding your foot on the gas, the rpm's will drop so you can shift but still allow you to hold boost. Not sure about number 2...and if im wrong with my explanation for numbers 1 and 3 please let me know

mr atchison must have posted while i was posting, so just refer to his answers

smokedmustang, how do you like your forge bov? My car had the HKS bov when I bought it, and I really don't like it, and can't decide between the JDM MR and the Forge. Any thoughts?

That guy needs his head examined. I've seen your power curve. Shift into second at 7000 so you don't grind, then shift every other gear at about 7300rpm. Hold 4th and never go to fifth in the quarter mile, as it will destroy your trap speed.

NLS has been around for a very long time, many DSM guys use it and have been using it for years.

My car does build some boost but its not 10PSI, more like 5PSI if I let it bounce for awhile.

I pretty much dump the clutch but I have a stock clutch. If I had an aftermarket clutch I would feather the launch a little more.

It takes practice to get right. You'll probably feel wierd doing it the first couple of times.

Smoke are you converting to drag now?? I don't think you look good in a dress. lol. Anyway, the NLS for me does not work very well on launching. You have to let out the clutch at the right time otherwise it bogg. I find it more useful at shifting in 2,3 and 4 at full throttle since I am not fast enough to powershift.
Anyway, will look forward to coming out there for the wwc.

To avoid that bog.....you need to modify the LC table to -50 -50 -50 instead of -100 -100 -100.
