I just received an xede. Bought it from someone on here who had to sell his Evo. Great guy. Anyway, I've been lurking through this forum to learn as much as possible. But I have a couple of basic questions my searches couldn't find the answers to.

I have a mail-in flash currently for my mods, which has boost control, launch control, rev limit raised, etc.

So, I'm guessing that I should just load a zeroed out map (except for the smart maps?) for now, is that correct? Also, will smart still work effectively?

My mods are not necessarily that consistent w/ the vishnu stages so I don't know that I'd be using the canned maps anyway. But it's just bolt-ons so it may not be that diff that maybe I could use one anyway. Is there any benefit to getting the xflash for $100 even though I think the changes it makes are already on my flash.

You are correct about loading up a zeroed out map. What are your current mods?

 

03 Evo.
Downpipe, cat-back, Power Enterprise Boost Controller/Gauge, Apex filter, 10.5 hotside. Megan O2 housing.
Now that I'm in the second-hand vishnu camp, I'll probably go back to the stock intake box. I guess, should I also get rid of the boost controller?

You should probably get rid of your current flash, get the XEDEFlash to get rid of fuel cut, raise rev limit and scale injector, if needed. I know that sound like a waste of money, but I bet it will be better then runnin your Xede on top of your flash.

Your should probably take off the boost contoller and intake.

Your not far off the Vishnu mod path, so just use a off the shelf map and tweak it a little.

 

Yeah, I agree your best bet is drop the intake and the boost controller, get and x-flash, and then get an 05 stg 0+ map and you ought to be right on. I believe the only difference in the 03 maps and the 05 maps are because the 05 has the 10.5 hotside, so you'd be just about right. You could also setup your launch control and nlts, and in the stickies, there is a how-to for making race gas maps if you're interested.

Whether or not the SMART would be beneficial with a zeroed out map over a reflash, I'm not to sure. Hopefully someone with a little better working knowledge of SMART could shed a little light on that topic.

 

You could run your XEDE on top of your current flash, but it will require custom tuning (i.e. can't use the maps off Vishnu's site). You can do a reasonably good job of tuning your own setup if you install the SMART system. Shiv has a tutorial out there somewhere. I'd probably play it safe, though. If you're not willing to run the gambit on tuning your own setup (or fork over the $$ to have someone else tune it), then I'd do as has been suggested above:
- XEDEflash
- reinstall stock intake
- uninstall MBC
- install cams
- run a v390 map for the correct octane rating of your gas

hey, thanks for all the help guys. That's great info. I guess if I sell the EBC, I'll recoup some of the cost of the xede and xedeflash. Not a bad thing at all. I guess I'm closer to the vishnu path than I thought.
