intake cam gear getting gouged up

intake cam gear getting gouged up

my intake camgear is getting gouged marks in it. exhaust side looks fine but intake side has odd grooves worn into it has anybody else experienced this problem im worried about my belt breaking . any help would be nice thaks.

can you elaborate a little.....where specifically are the groves you speak of? on the side or on the teeth part where the belt rides? cam gears a new install? could be from the cam gear plastic cover....the stock one...mine had to be ground down a bit to avoid just this....take a look at the inside of your cam gear cover if its still being used.

my cam gear cover got chewed up with the vishnu gears...the outer edges of the teeth got a bit worn down, but nothing to worry about...

dremeled the inside cover to avoid cam gear clearance issues

no i did that too its the teeth! thats why im worried. i have never heard of this problem thats why im asking around

IIRC, some of the very early sets were not hardened properly, or machined correctly...something like that. Also, if you are runnign around with out a cam belt cover up top, you could be getting dirt in there which would chew things up. Takes only a little silica to do damage. If it's a defect I would call and talk to them on it...give 'em a chnace to rectify the situation. It's even their dime for the call!
