Should I take it off???
So my off road racing team is sponsored by AEM/DC. They set up my EVO IX with an AEM short ram intake, and DC turbo back exhaust. I recently had Shiv install the X Flash reflash. He said that I would probably get more power with the stock airbox, than the AEM unit. I was thinking of taking both the AEM and the stock box down to Vishnu to have both dyno'd, to see what happens. Has anyone already done this with an IX? I did a search, and found a LOT of debate with older Evos, but was wondering how the IX reacts to the short ram vs. stock box. If there is simply no gain, I'd just assume leave it on... If there is negative performance, then I'll surely remove it.
On another note, with the mods I have, what should my next mod be? I want the most reliable power I can get out of 91 octane pump gas...

He always tells people to remove an aftermarket intake. Other tuners have them listed in their upgrade path. So it is up to you. But I can tell you that if tuned correctly the aem will make more power than the stocker. Good luck

The hot air intake is a downgrade. Especially noticeable (by most people anyway) during normal driving. On the dyno, with the hood open, the negative effects are hidden for the most part.

plus.. if you live in ca its nice to have a stock looking engine bay if you do get harassed by the boys in blue, and in terms of power i dont see anyone else making more power out of evo 9s with just tuning, tbe (and even intakes) eov 9s make 300+ whp with just the flash and tbe, this is considered very good power on pump gas by pretty much anyone. (remember these are not dyno jet numbers, but dyno dynamics numbers)

"The thing is that when you dyno a car, the hood is open and the aftermarket intake get cold air that it normaly wouldn't get when on the road (with the hood closed), therfore making power that it wouldn't on the road. Now, when the stock intake is dynoed, it's gonna perform worse then when on the road because there is no way to make air go into the stock air duct as fast as it would on the road. In conclusion, I believe if you road dynoed both intakes, the stock box would dyno the same or more then a aftermarket intake."
