Bye bye, Vishnu Evo VIII...
Thanks Alan, I'm loving it!
Astute eye, friend! When they PDI'd the car before leaving the dealer, they kept the plastic wheel caps on it (7 miles on odometer) to protect it during the journey. They forgot to send the caps along, but promised to mail them out this week, so I have holes in my wheels for a few more days.
Not at all, Taylor! This new all aluminum World Engine scares me. I hope I am wrong, but I really fear its modability might suck. I decided to get a clean example of the last iteration of 4G63 Evolution before it was too late.

I got enough out of the VIII to really put a dent in the IX down payment. I dropped my interest rate and my payment is a lot lower. The overall increase in debt was pretty small- $5000 and I got a new car with a 100k warranty.
The main reason this worked out well for me was because I was overpaying a lot on my VIII. I hope to pay the IX off within two and a half years, but we'll see how that goes.

But I have to say, if that was the reasoning you used above, it is flawed. Debt isn't the only factor...what about taxes, the lost money in modifications, etc? It is much more than 5k that you'd be losing by switching cars. I know, I've ran the numbers many times.
Overall it just makes more sense to stick with the VIII and repair, upgrade as needed.
Congrats on the new car...I'd love to get an IX.

Not that justification is needed since it was my buying decision, but here's more info for you:
1) I have a 1 year old daughter and want a more stockish ride that is still protected by a warranty. All that extra power started to feel like I would want to push it further and "stretch the rubber band" and tempt fate.
2) My VIII had been involved in a small accident, was repaired (buyer knows of course), could use some chipped paint touch up work on the front bumper.
3) Even if I refinanced my VIII locally, I couldn't have gotten the great rate I got on the IX since it is a new car. True I could've paid the other car off sooner, but it would've been a lot higher mileage then. I just wanted a last of the 4G63s. If I had a late VIII/2005 MY with ACD, a front LSD ,and a color I had actually liked (unlike black which you can see rock chips from space), I might've been more tempted to keep it.
4) I lost HIDs, but got ACD and a much stronger front diff that is limited slip.
5) My VIII had 53k on it and would also need a timing belt soon.
6) Modifications, I don't care. I think I'm taking a totally different direction with this car and rock the stock turbo for awhile. Had I stripped the car and sold it stock, there is no way I could've got what I was asking for it.
Trust me, there were compromises to do this, and I feel the new owner got a really good deal on a car that's complete. I think in the end, it worked out the best for both parties.
Dude! You suck... er, I mean, nice car.
I can understand the appeal of getting the last of the 4G63s though. I'd keep the modding very light if I were you. The IX has such potential with just an exhaust and a tune (but you know this of course.) I'm keeping with my promise to the wife and sticking with the VIII and hope to have it paid for by the middle of this year. Then I can start saving for the next one...

IMO, the xede on the 9 is not cost effective. The Xede does not control MIVEC, so you are going to have to flash the ECU to get the most power out of the 9. Might as well flash the timing and fuel maps while your at it. Go with a flash, it will be more cost effective for you.

It's like we were pretty much thinking the same thing with our decisions... minus the 1yr old daughter part.

Mivec will be controlled in the flash, but I like the precise fueling and timing (not to mention not having to use a gay MBC) of the XEDE. Everytime I see both on the dyno, the XEDE can eek out more than a flash with more safety (SMART). After going 50,000 miles with an XEDE, it will suck not having one, so I'm still leaning that way.
