Question Evo Running Funny...

I've had an xede installed for a few months (non smart 93 octane map). It has been working great - very noticable difference especially in the higher gears. However i recently noticed that the car started running funny. It works well in normal daily driver operation and at normal RPMs. But when I go to kick in the gas (as though i am going to pass someone), the RPMs jump up quick (nothing happens) then there is a momentary pause, and then the car finally starts to pick up speed. there is nothing instantaneous about it (as it was in the beginning). in short, there is a split second after i step on the gas where nothing happens - the car does not react to the throttle.

So tonight, I disconnected the xede entirely - then take it for a drive to see if anything is different. Same issue.

Any thoughts? I would appreciate any insight.

Boost leak, or turbo lag?

If you are saying that the rpms jump up quick when you hit the gas and the car is not going anywhere then goes, it sounds like the clutch it starting to slip maybe...just a thought...check the plugs too, actually change it to what Vishnu recommends.

Thanks for the response guys...All things that went through my mind.

Does not seem like a clutch to me though, because it does not happen during shifting. It happens while i am in gear. What I mean is, if I am travling on the highway in 5th gear at 60mph and I step on the gas to bring it to 80 or 85mph (while still in 5th) - that is when the rpms jump up first, then the car catches up, it seems. (but if the clutch is doing something else in between shifts, then i may be wrong)

It could be boost leak or turbo lag, but how do i pin point the cause. The turbo seems to spool normally, sounds like it always does. Of course, I havent really pushed the car hard for fear of doing more damage - so i dont know if it will boost up to the normal psi.

Any other thoughts?
I'm at 42k miles, should i take it to the dealer?

What you just explained is exactly what happens when your clutch begins to give out. Your clutch is beginning to slip.

I don't think so, it is a wearable item, like brakepads. My stock clutch lasted 5K miles.
