Hmm.......that is a lot of destroyed parts. Whats up with the front diff? I am starting to wonder if 430-470 whp is not such a good idea on the stock parts? I know that you have to pay to play, but with all of the new turbo kits coming out this could be the tip of the iceberg so to say. We may be in for a rash of broken front and rear diffs along with tranfer cases, tranny's, and center diffs. I guess time will tell. This could become a constant chase of reinforcing one thing just to go on to the next.

Shiv,

What are you gonna do as far as the front diff is concerned?
Go with a stock replacement or are there upgrades for the USDM EVO???

As far as I know no one makes any upgrades for the front diff of our Yankee cars.....unless you can pull some strings and get an RS LSD some how.
Also, I would like to know if you could post pics of the front diff install? It would be interesting to see how that flywheel looks after all of the dyno time.

Good luck!!

Ron

Sorry to hear that. I can't believe the front diff is bad. Are you going to check the center diff? Stuff like this makes me wanna get a skyline, but anyways good luck on getting your car up and running soon.

You've ruled out all of those hours on the dyno as the dyno being the catalyst to the failures? Failures seem excesive from just a couple of runs down a strip. Granted it has more HP, etc., but reports of failures have been small.

The dyno puts not unusual stress on any of the differentials since there is no wheelspeed differential between any of the wheels. Nor is there any shock loading of any sort.

All the noises/clunks/binding occurred after the trip to the drag strip so I hold those 4 wheel burn outs/axle hopping the cause of the failures. And not to worry, the car is still up and running. Clunks and all

Cheers,
shiv

PS. I should also mention that I run R-compound race tires (255-40/17) on a daily basis so they tend to make life harder on the drivetrain during launches as well.

Yikes!! That puts me a little bit more at ease about my drivetrain with upcoming mods. R compound tires + VHT = super glue. Super glue + AWD = kaboom.

I still think you've scared me off drag racing for awhile, Shiv. I have two quarter mile passes ever on this car, and they might be the only two I do... Unless my WRX/SRT-4 friends get too fast and uppity... Must... resist... temptation.

oh man! Keep us posted! What makes you think the front is toast? Same thing cornering? Thats a bummer man! I would think that the rear would take most of the grunt with the weight transfer and all. Maybe it has something to do with the lubricants you used? Let us know! I want to end up with a stage two, that is, if it doesnt require beefing up the whole drivetrain!

Still working on it right now. We had to steal parts of another EVO since some replacement differential parts (bearings, oil seals, etcl,.) aren't available at the dealer
