Here is a good photo of what your gears should look like when set at -2. Use this for reference. They are installed correctly.

You're right. People are getting confused by the red mark. That mark is just used to align the gears when installing them. Your reference point for degreeing the gears should still be the 0 mark. Hope that makes sense.
