EXEDE vs. UTEC

Which is better? Better can be interpretted in many ways, but I mean which is more tunable, whcih will have better company support, which will provide more power (if not the same), etc.

Do they basically both do the same thing?

Right now, I only have a turboback exhaust on my car, but I do plan to do a lot more stuff.

I'm in Socal, so I would probably chose XS Engineering to do the tuning (not really sure yet, other suggestions would be welcome).

Sorry if this is kind of a newb question, but I really don't know much about tuning, and reading all the posts in the vishnu and UTEC forums just confused me more.

This is also posted in the UTEC section.

Here's similar thread that may hold you over until someone with a good understanding of both can answer.

That was an interesting thread; I had been following it for a while. At the time of my first post I didn't realise that the datalogging and wideband functions would be ready to be included with version 1.8 of the firmware.

I like the Xede better just for the simple reason that the STOCK ecu and not a piggy back has control of the knock sensor and timing. So if you ping the Evo engineers well thought out knock control system kicks in and saves your motor. Now the Xede does have a knock sensor control but you can have the stock ECU contorl it. Also I like the fact that you can just pull timing off the factory ECU base Ign. advance instead of runing a sold number. With Utec the stock timing is run until open loop kicks (Boost) and then the Utec takes full control of timing firing the coils it self. Now this is were I think (IMHO) you have be very carfull tuning the ignation advance. Now if you don't have that just right the car can have a unsmooth tranistion or worse Knock or high cyl perssure.

Also I think they had a problem with Fuel mapping. The stock ECU has two fuel maps Regular and detuned And the Stock ECU would run the lower map and the tune would be off. They have addressed this issue by now I don't know.

Now I don't completely dis like the Utec. It's got a great data logger and you can get the tunner with Wideband 02 and knock sensor and log it all on the screen. But the GUI is not a fancy as the Exeds with 3D maps.

You as the user have to make up your own mind. You also need to trust your local tuners EM experince. So ask them witch they perfer. If your not going to be tuning your self.

IMHO
Eric
