Xede Boost Question

Hi. I bought a second hand Xede from a member here. The unit was brand new and it does have the most recent firmware. I installed the unit last night and I am curious about the boost. My Evo is stock and I am using the OEM boost gauge. Before installing the Xede, my car in 3rd gear would boost to 1.2 and taper to 1.1. After installing the Xede and loading the 93 Subzero map, my boost spikes to 1.3 and tapers to 1.2. This sound correct? BTW, removing the pill from the boost line was a PITA! I guess I'm concerned that I may not be boosting to potential. I did tighten some of the intercooler clamps that I can get to along with the diverter valve.

What are the units of measure on the OEM boost gauge? I know it isn't bars. IF I recall correctly 1.3 is close to 20 psi w/ a conversion to psi.

Unit of measure is kg/CM2.

1 kg/cm2 = 14.22 PSI

That means that stock I was boosting to 17 PSI and tapering to 15.6 PSI.

With Xede, I'm boosting to 18.4 PSI and tapering to 17 PSI.

It just doesn't sound right. Numbers just seem low.

Thats a touch low. I see 1.4 bar midrange dropping to 1.3. Did you remove the restrictor from the factory boost control line?

I'm not an expert (yet ) by any means on how the XEDE maps affect boost, but it looks like your boost increased about as much as it should have (read: ~+10%). If I had to guess, I'd say your OEM boost gauge is just reading low and that's where I'd start looking first.

The Xede is definately doing it's job with boost control. I did remove the pill from the line to the stock solinoid.

I think I know why my car is not boosting as much as it used to. Before the Xede, I had a MBC. I think the installer really did some damage to my original vacuum lines during the MBC install. When I pulled the MBC out and put the original lines back in, I had to replace the section of line that goes from the tee to the turbo housing. The orginal section had a restrictor in it which I transplanted to the new line. I dont' think the restrictor fits as nice and snug as the original line.

If that restrictor is not in there correctly then your boost will be lower. I believe a new line from mitsu isn't that much. The new line will also have the restrictor pill in it.

Ah, yeah, I had a profec B on my car before the Xede so I was using the extended vac lines I had from that unit to keep from having to pull the fan, etc to get the stock boost control lines back on. I didn't see the pill in the compressor line for a while and it was giving me fits as I was only boosting 10 psi until I figured that I must have missed a restrictor somewhere in the factory setup

Hey Kenshin, the price was $13.95 + $7.95 shipping. Yeah.. price of shipping sucks. Maybe someone else may know another location to order. The part number is MN143555. Seems to come with everything including new fastners. Just got it today instead of tomorrow. Way to go DHL!
