My friend was sitting shotgun playing around w/ the glove compartment, and found a red wire with a length-wise black stripe dangling loose. One end is clearly connected to something, the loose end is cleanly cut. Now, should I beat him senseless cuz he broke my car , or should I stick the wire back up there and forget about it?

Where's it coming from? If it's coming from the Xede pin 9 on the black connectors, it's the boot wire. Nothing to worry about.

 

I think that is one of the wires for switching maps.

 

Yes it sounds like it is one of the map switching wires....but beat him senseless anyway
