Mods please don't move this.
Okay, this is not a specific Vishnu question but I greatly respect the guys that frequent this room and I don't want some freaking newbie saying, "DO A SEARCH". I have always been a good boy on this board so please just leave it. Thanks
Okay, I have the Vishnu Stage 1(soon to be 1 plus) from what I figure I have 290-300 whp. Yes I went to the Dallas Dyno day but couldn't stay for my turn :( Everyone there was getting around 300-320 whp with Stage 1 and 1 plus cars. Here is my question: All these people on this board that claim 343-355 whp with just a ECU flash, exhaust, APEXI AFC and a boost controller. Well I bought the best the stage 1 from Vishnu and soon the plus but from the Dyno day results, I will be far from my goal of 350-360whp. After I get my cams what do I need to do next to achieve my goal? Thanks Tont |
The high figures you cited are probably from people who tested on a 2WD dyno and tuned for race gas with no cat. That would easily explain the difference from 4WD dynojet figures (on pump gas I'm assuming).
It's fun to target a given whp number but you might want to set your goals in terms of trap speeds - these are more consistent than dyno readings. |
I agree
Yes, I do agree. It's just that I live in Dallas and the only 1/4 track that is around is always freaking busy. You pay 15 buck to sit in line for 4 hrs.

Please see this link to NJ Dyno Day. Stage 1+ (with a few tweeks plus or minus) made 363 to the wheels.

Hey Tony-
Here's the deal. Every dyno reads differently. Heck, after seeing the results from the East Coast dyno day from Shiv's work, its obvious to me that a lot of dynojets read differently than each other. To me, I agree with ez76 that you need to set your power goals on trap speed rather than whp, as all whp isn't "equal" at all so to speak. One thing I will say is that an AFC/MBC car is NOT going to put down the power of a stage 1 car. I went the SAFC route before, and it just doesn't compare. Proof for this lies in some dragstrip times. I love drag racing once or twice a year to quantify my mods, but I HATE doing it for waiting in line and wear and tear on my AWD drivetrain. I only went once so far in this car, and it was almost 6 months ago. At that time, I had an SAFC, BR intake, BR muffler delete pipe, Pruven test pipe, and an MBC set at 20psi. I was able to run a 12.91@107mph with a pretty crappy 1.88 60'. I made a total of three passes, stayed consistently bad on the launch and decided to not take anymore chances with the stock clutch. Shortly after that, my friend Steve went with his Evo and was able to beat my times by 2 tenths and about a mph. The difference between our cars was that he had the full catless BR turbo-back exhaust and I had this piecemeal deal with the stock downpipe and midpipe. So I ordered up an identical turbo back to his, but with the quieter Magnaflow exhaust instead. At that point, on the street, our cars were virtually identical. Two 108mph cars based off his times. Well, after that I decided to get rid of the SAFC and get some more elegant fuel management that could make power by advancing timing as well instead of just leaning the piss out of the car. I had some Vishnu parts on my previous car (WRX) and have always had a very high respect for Shiv's runing and products. So I went with a default map XFlash Stage 1 and cam gears I had on my car when I arrived in Dallas for the custom tune. Those cam gears and XFlash with the shelf map alone helped the car like crazy in the middle with its 23psi midrange spike. Mine was unique in a problem, though, as I'd lose more boost than everyone else. To see the result at the time, I ran my friend Steve again and promptly WAXED HIS ARSE. :D See, at this point, I wasn't custom tuned and didn't have a way to the dragstrip yet as it was closed until spring. :( So we'd always get in the same gear and do three honk pulls. As elated as I was with being able to pull him with the XFlash, I was still running nearly 5psi less than him at redline! Needless to say, in the top of 4th my puling on him planed off, but he still couldn't pull back the 1.5+ cars I'd put on him with the midrange punch. This is the point I went to Dallas and got the custom XEDEflash tune. Sorry to rample on and on and on, but I had to get to the point. The point is, now Steve's car isn't even close. :) A couple WRX pals went with me to Dallas and all of our other friends are switching to Vishnu. The results just simply speak for themselves. Test piped cars stink and are horrible for people inside a closed dyno like Alamo, but DAG NAB (southern fun) they sure make freaking great power. Shiv's custom tune on the XEDEflash transformed my car into something NUTS for a cam gears+dump-back+management car. Three wee little mods. To me, the jump in power from getting cams is not worth the compromise. I have no doubt I can EASILY trap 110-111mph now, as a couple of Stage 1 Vishnu cars have already done it and based on the fact that I pull my friend like crazy from roll speeds. To me, there is another ingredient, and it makes great power: Race gas. I would LOVE to get this car to trap 113-114 (will need a clutch) on a Shiv tuned race gas map and be able to scare the crap out of a Z06 on the street. To me, that's all I want to accomplish this year powerwise. Eventually, I'd like to get out of this current exhaust and get a catless Vishnu exhaust for better fitment. Also, I want a rear swaybar, sportier brake pads, and maybe a second set of wheels and tires someday. Again, sorry this post took forever, but that's my plan for the nearby future. You have to ask yourself what your plan is. A custom tune and a race gas map might be all you need to make some awesome power and get you what you want. Maybe cams will get you closer to the goal. We're all different in our desires. To me, low 12s on race gas with the stock bumpsticks will cut it. I hope all this rambling helped you to evaluate what your goals are for practicality, output, and cost. Just remember, all dynos are different. :D Seth |
Thank you Seth
That was an awesome post. I greatly appreciate the time. Low 12's to me is perfect. Just need to get a custom tune by Shiv. I might go cams, I might not but right now I am VERY happy with my car and I only have the defult Stage 1 map and the default Stage 1 104 map. Have even runthe the 104 map yet. Thanks agian SETH, your the man!!!

If you want 350 hp, go to TurboChargers.com in Houston and dyno. That is where they did the first Vishnu Day in Texas and I think the numbers were pretty high with just the basic mods. I seem to remember Bill (Evorosso) posting 310 or 320 hp with just exhaust and an Exede. Noise is right. Dyno numbers are good for forum bragging and that's about it.
