front and rear differetials

are there any aftermarket replacement for differentials on the Evo8? My end goal is to reduce highway cruising rpm. any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Try Team Rip Engineering. http://www.teamrip.com. He (John) tells me he can put together an MR 6 speed for any of the Evo 8's. That would give you a taller cruising gear.

I asked him about putting a taller 5th gear into the existing 5 speed. It's something he'll have down the line but it's not available at the moment.

He's also putting RS LSD's in transfer cases for any of the EVO 8's. If you blow your front dif, this is a nice option. I think it's similar to the Quaife's everyone is waiting on from RRE. The nice thing about this unit is it's a straight swap.

I looked at their website, but I beleive they only have taller gears for the mitsu Eclipse AWD and FWD with some mods, if I remember correctly.

Correct. But you can get an MR 6 speed that has the cruising 6th gear. IIRC John says it bolts right up but you'd have to buy the MR shift mechanism.

That would do the trick.

My 6th gear is at 4,100 RPM at 80mph ! What are you guys talking about it, it is nothing lile an over drive........ I feels the same as my previous 03 Evo, you just have to shift a lot more !

Looks like there's not that much difference, but there is one, not worth it imo especially for drag racing;

6-Speed: 1st - 40, 2nd - 59, 3rd - 80, 4th - 105, 5th - 133, 6th - 166

So on the street, I don't think you'd notice a huge difference since gears 1-3 are pretty much the same. As for better cruising rpms, not really.

5-Speed turns 2600 rpms at 60 mph and 80 mph is ~3400-3500 rpms.

6-Speed turns ~2500-2600 rpms at 60 mph and 80 mph is ~3300-3400 rpms.

I used the gear ratio calculator on f-body.org. The only real benefit of the 6-speed would be on the track where it would keep you in the power band after 4th gear.

I personally am far more interested in the durability aspect.
