Vivid RX-8
I was just curious if the rumors about the Renesis engine were true....that infact the engine wasn't putting out even close to 238hp?
Is that right?
Are you going to do the traditional things to a Rotary? Like Bridgeporting or J-porting?
There doesnt' appear to be alot of space for aftermarket stuff, specifically because of that ugly *** engine cover, what does it look like under it? Any plans to turbo it?

Well, the power out put isn't as high as what Mazda origionally said (go figure). The ECU is a new CAM system that has a built in "don't over heat the cat mode" in which the sensors richen the fuel when the front wheels aren't spinning to protect the cat. Kind of funky but we're working around that. There are a few companies working on turbo kits that should be available soon so we'll see what happens to the prototypes after they've got some miles on them.
Mazda has adjusted its rating twice already on HP.
"The ECU is a new CAM system that has a built in "don't over heat the cat mode" in which the sensors richen the fuel when the front wheels aren't spinning to protect the cat."
He's correct. SCC tried to jerry-rig some sort of by-pass system, but all of their attempts (3 different approach) have failed to reach their desired result.

supercharger kits are now available in japan for the rx8... check latest Option Magazine for info... the world renowned RE Amemiya garage is trying to bring the beast out of it as hard as possible, but so far no major power has been realized... do you all think this engine could be already maxxed out?
go drive one. mazda isn't stuck up about the rx-8. I tested one the week they got it. It's a nice car. If you like the way an s2000 feels you'll like it. If your just going to buy a car based on printed horse numbers then we'd want other cars. Its finding a complete package thats the trick. power/suspension/brakes/practicality/luxery. /looks. The Rx-8 has a nice blend.

It's too bad you can't stuff the 13B Rotary in there, or even a 20B tri-rotary!!!!!
Vivid, how much space is actually under that plastic engine cover? Lots? It doesn't look like it, but I haven't seen one with the cover off, went to a dealer and asked to see one with the cover off....guy told me to take a hike. I guess they're afraid I'll see the REAL engine.....

Actually Acosta racing put the 20B tri-rotary in the RX8...they also stuffed a massive turbo on it....they're figuring that it pumps out about 800 hp.

yea, the rx8 has a nice balance, but the problem is that a lot of people are comming in the mazda lot with thoughts of the fd3s still fresh on their minds, I test drove an rx8 too... nice balance, but nothing outstanding that would make me choose that car over anything else... in the latest best motoring video, there's a shoot out between it, and s2k, 350z, skyline coupe (g35 coupe here) integ type-r, and a bmw... in the handling field, it's very nice, but when it came to power, it just couldn't keep up... damn... that 20b loox hella sick... guess they already figured that the renesis can't do much, so they scrapped it... poor poor mazda, hopefully the revival of the turbo-charged rx7 in a few years will make up for it... sorry to sound so biased toward the rx8, but I think it's just another blue-collar ride for the masses, blah
