HFS-1 & Pressure switch ?

* The following question was posted by Shift_S60R*

"on the Volvo forum brought up the piece that would make this kit not plug and play on my car, a pressure switch. No one has yet to try out a system using anything but a pressure system to trigger the spray. This system seems to trigger off of a MAP, MAF, ... type signal. Can anyone get a price on the pressure switch? I'm assuming it should be compatible with this system?

Richard/Jack/Abner please chime in on this as he is looking for an awswer to possiblily make the deadline for the HFS-1 group buy.

Thank for posting the question.

I'm also interested in where this system ranks among the Aquamist offerings. I know the 1S system with/without the DDS3 works fine with the Volvos. I can have the 1S without the DDS3 for roughly the same amount as this GB, and it includes everything I need to get going.

I'm rather go for the high quality product over the bells and whistles. I'd just like a bit more info on this before I pick one. I've seen the shurflo 's going for a fairly low cost. The DDS3 is something that I don't particularly need.

If you want to use a pressure switch, make sure you use a "normally closed" Aquamist #806-157

I think the HFS-1 GB finishes this weekend. I need to confirm this with Jack.

I think shift is just not sold on how the HFS-1 works versus the 1S. I wish I felt well enough to spend more time right now in making a detailed response to what I now understand is his position since all he's seen is the 1s and 2D systems and thats what the Volvo people have been using. Richard, he needs a little help on the how it works.

Shift get in the GB so you do not lose out I'll get you more info for you tomorrow. Not sure yet if the GB will be extended or not it depends if people would like to wait longer on getting the kits.

The HFS-1 is designed to undertake vast amount of flow compared to the system1s. Most of application for the HFS-1 will be over 15% water+methaol to fuel ratio. In fact it can out-flow the 1s by 4/5 times.

Methanol injection requires as least twice the amount of water to give the same in-cylinder cooling effect in terms of latent heat capacity. With this quantity of injectant in mind, some fuel has to be taken out to avoid pig-rich afr.

For this very reason, the HFS-1 comes with the DDS3 flow monitoring sensing system as standard - essential for the health of your engine. It is not a bell and whistle but very necessary.

If you want a Shurflo based system without a DDS3, just go to Mcmasters or Northerntools, you can get a working system based on a shurflo pump less than 100 dollars.

A 60W Shurflo pump starts between 40-60 dollars, a 100W at ~100 dollars ansd 150W about $150.00. You will find most budget systems uses a 60W shurflo pump and oil, heater nozzles and some brass fittings acquired from home depot.

More advanced system supplied with a motor speed controller, available from $25.00 (DIY). This combination will set you back around 450-500 dollars - failsafe option is extra. They are normally consists of a pressure switch or a fixed rate flow switch (on/off).

I believe the HFS-1 covers the bare minimum requirement of a basic W/M injection system. Upgrade path is simple.

I have taken myself out of the GB. After reading https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=252352, I'm now mainly interested in running a mostly water mixture with the injection system. There did not seem to be a conclusion to that thread, so for me water is the way to go right now. I'm still trying to read up as much as I can before this GB ends.

I'm trying to keep this car alive for as long as possible. I drive it hard and my reasoning for water injection would be more of a safety thing than a performance thing.
