water in methanol is not a bad thing - it raises the latent heat of vaporization

talking to a chemist at my work, he sees no use to put water in methonal. as close to 100% is best he says.

 

***update- research find that adding 10% or so will inhibit the corrosive nature of methanol with aluminum, but you dont want to much so its a good test to make sure you have your 100% meth, then add your water.

 

i have the 2" X 2" X 0.001" piece of Reynolds aluminum foil soaking in HPLC grade methanol - $60/gal, cant get it any purer.
