Aquamist components and Methanol
Aquamist components and Methanol
Hello everyone
Carefull of what gets put into the supply tank. The systems will work without issue's or problems for along time with pure methanol or distilled water or a mixture of them.
Using below
http://www.vpracingfuels.com/vp_01_fuels.html#specialty
"M1™
M1 Racing Methanol has a 99.95% minimum purity - the highest purity available in the U.S. With M1, engines run cooler and are less subject to corrosion. VP uses only lined drums which prohibit rust, corrosion and metal deposits that can contaminate fuel delivery systems. Recommended for all methanol-legal racing applications."
"NEW! M5™
M5 is simply the best performing methanol on the market. Using nitrated compounds to make more power than M3, M5 will also offer the same or better protection against detonation. Like M3, M5 offers a wider range for tuning and will offer the same consistency run to run as M3. M5 also reduces noxious methanol fumes, although not quite as well as M3. M5 is not pure methanol and won't pass a water test."
Nitrated is bolded by me to bring attention to the word/phrase = stay away from.
Do not use M3 & M5........but do feel free to use M1.
In particular it's the EDPM seals within the components having fluid move through them thats a concern.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EPDM_rubber
"EPDM exhibits satisfactory compatibility with fireproof hydraulic fluids, ketones, hot and cold water, and alkalis, and unsatisfactory compatibility with most oils, gasoline, kerosene, aromatic and aliphatic hydrocarbons, halogenated solvents, and concentrated acids."
For simplicity and until I can put together something that can be technical enough yet easy to read and therefore informative, please look to use something equivalent to M1 or better....meaning as close to just pure methanol as possible.

on the DA, read the label. different maker will poison it with their own concoction of solvents
when it contains acetone, methylethylketone, dichloromethane/methylene chloride znd other highly polar solvents, dont use it no matter how low the content

I use pumps with the EDPM seals. They only last about three months before leaking. I buy meth in sealed cans from chem supply. Doesnt seem to be helping the life of my pumps at all.
your pumps blew because of overpressure:
