Talking Road Race Engineering sponsored Rally

Hey guys, hope you all had fun at the meet. As for me i had a freekin great time in the rally i ran yesturday. And didnt even know it was sposored and paid for by RRE. I did pretty well in my first rally, came in dead middle of the field cosisting of 31 cars. My best friend got first place, with only a 5 point deduction, if any of you know how rally's are pointed. This rally started in Ontario at the TA truck stop, went down the 10 fwy to 215n, to 30E, to 18N, to 138N, all the way throughcrestline , writewood, up by edwards air force base, and ended in acton california, i made it in about 5 hours i wish you all could have been there , it was only me and another yellow OZ. im posting info on the next coming up rally in April in this post

Thumbs up OK here is April's rally

ANGLES CROWN
7-hour monte carlo style
Navigational road rally
April 26, 2003

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ All legal vehicles welcome. No special equipment required. This is an easy, map based, backroad-oriented, timed event for first time entrants and experts alike.

this is not a race. it is intended to be a test of your map reading and instruction following capabilities. However, you are expected to run "on time". think of it as a giant board game, with the roads and lanscape of california for a board and you and your car for a game piece.

opportunities for spirited driving will abound. paved roades only. 2 people per car (driver and navagator) are suggested. Event runs rain or shine. there are 3 classes: Novice, Regular, and Expert. we suggest you bring a clipboard, pen , paper, 3 different colored highlighters, and a light inside the car, other than the dome light to read the maps at night. you'll also need a clock that can set seconds.

the entry fee for this even is only $55 dollars per car. please reregister if possible. Visa or Mastercard accepted. Send your name, address, phone, and with credic card info and signature, or check or money order, payable to ITN, to the address below. if you can't pre-register, please call or email us so we will know you are coming. All entries must bring registration, proof of insurance, and your drivers license to the start.

Kara , it's incredible fun. I honestly can not explain enough to justify how fun it is. It is really something that has to be experienced. And if anyone had any doubts about an age thing , at the one i just did saturday there were age groups from 15 to 60 , and full families , i hope more people give this some serious consideration

I honestly plan on participating in one of those. I've read about road rallies before, and how much skill is involved, and always wanted to try it. I might be a better navigator than driver, any takers??? Anyway, I'm marking that date on my calendar, hopefully I can get it off work.

thats awesome Urban, if your able to get the time free i can guarante you wont be dissapointed , and i hope we can get alot more representation from this club, Road Race engineering has been known to sponser out of events like this, if maybe thats a little incentive, Also with what i learned from Saturddays rally i would suggest bringing a GPS and if nothing else a compase, my friend that won the beginner class had a dang lap top with a gps program installed, and an Additional GPS system, now you tell me why he won lol. but its not against the rules

Hey, it was cool having you @ the rally. I'm the guy who spun out. Those were some great roads. More of you guys should show up next time. The lancers made it feel more like a "real" rally. Thanks for the help on getting my car off that mound of dirt

As far as using GPS, i'm pretty sure that a GPS will put you in expert class automatically, so i wouldn't bother with one...it won't help much anyway. The best thing to do is thouroughly map out the route beforehand, and choose the best roads, or you'll end up 15 minutes late for a checkpoint, and then have to make it up...although that can be really fun
Hope to see a bunch of you guys @ the next rally

My car is fine...just a few lil' scratches and a small gash in the bumper. It kinda sux that they threw out the checkpoint, cause that would've set the drivers apart from the others....oh well. We were running 3 mins early when we spun, and had half a mile to go....could've creeped to the hose I wonder if anyone zeroed that checkpoint, cuz we were FLYING to make it there on time. Oh well....see you at the next one.

Sweet - I'm in for the next one. I had no idea that they actually did this stuff for real here on the West Coast.
