The Evo will probably be around 28 to 30k.

a little about myself.. i am 19 years old. from east side san jose cali.

i use to be a proud owner of a 2000 celica gts 6 speed in absolutely red..
but due to an accident i no longer have it but hopefully the positive from all of this is i will own a evo 7..

if the price of the evo is around wrx price.. then my chances of it is greater.. if not.. then off to the subaru crowd i go where a lot of my friends have been trying to reel me in..

hopefully my stay here will inform me on the evo a bit and lean me to getting it more than its number 1 enemy.. the subaru wrx..
Sucks about you car man... What are the details on the accident. Anyway, you're better off with the Evo or WRX. I can't stand the new Celica's with their pathetic torque :soapbox: . They're actually depressing to drive, IMHO. There is a lot more bang for the buck with the WRX over a Celica, and hopefully the same will hold true with the EVO.

EuGeNiLe... you use to, or still, hang around the celica.net forums?

well.. foxvr6.. i mite not have a celica owner any more.. but i still have respect for that car and i still stand by it.. as i know a lot of owners..
yes the torque is not impressive.. but u gotta hand it to the gts 6 speed for being capable of hitting a 14.9 1/4 mile STOCK.. out of a little 1.8 liter 180hp motor.. and if u hate the gts torque.. and the gts itself.. im guesing you hate the loved type r? as the gts was compared highly to the type r.. but u should take in consideration the type r is raced prepped limited edition to the gts which is a mass produced car with less horsepower..
and with just intake the gts is capable of hitting 14.4.. with everything else alll stock..

yes the wrx was more bang for its buck NOW.. but at the time i got the car..
in 2000.. there was no wrx.. and for 21.. the gts was the best.. fastest japanese sub compact car.. and yes i know some of you will say: how bout the type r? or the prelude.. which both have more hp..
yea the type r wouldve been nice.. but at the time the mark ups they were giving it were crazy.. and the prelude is nice but its too heavy.. yea it has torque but thats cause it needs it to lift that 3000+ lb chassis..
and if we're doing mag racing..
the type r stock is 14.5
gts is 14.9
not bad..

i loved the car.. and others do too.. i dont know how u could say that.. but then againt hat was ur opinion and i cant change that..

that brings me to my opinion on how i would rather get a 1.8t than a vr6.. i hear vw is coming out with a new vr6 because the current 1.8t was faster and sold better because it was cheaper than the vr6.. plus u cant go wrong with a car thats already turboed.. but again thats just my opinion..

and now that i think of it.. you should change your comment on how u think the wrx is a better buy than a gts.. u should be telling that to those new 3g eclipse owners.. and rsx owners.. those cars msrp are 24k+ while the gts is at 21k..

all in all.. both cars are very nice.. it really depends on what racing you are gonna be doing.. on a track and obviously rally.. the wrx and evo will own.. (stock 4 stock)

but from experience.. and from seeing my friends.. on a straight line.. the top ends of the awd in the wrx slows it down.. and i find myself saying goodbye to the wrx as i pass by them.. but of course from a stop yes indeed i loved looking at that wrx emblem..

but my eyes are set on an evo.. but if not a wrx will do.. and those who know me know i will be a good addition to any car crowd.. and i hope to be part of the evo group..

talk to everyone again soon..
Holy moly you all better watch out what you say to Gene whew! You'll get a earful alright and with the facts to back it all up! I can tell stright forwared you'll be a nice addition to the car crowd!

Just look at the price difference this way between the evo and the wrx..not the STi being your looking for a 21K dollar range. Yes, I know the EVO will be under 30k somewhere.. The thing that drew me to the EVO is it having a stronger tranny in comparison to the WRX. In the long run I won't have to be worried (as much) as I would be with a EVO then I would be with a WRX. Being that the WRX tranny is weaker.

The price of a new tranny and labor is what made me go, "Hum.. better to just get the EVO with a stronger tranny and not have to worry (as much if any at all .. if you treat it right) then I would be with the WRX. Tranny work are costly repairs... not to mention a dogbox upgrade is about 3k in itself....

Sure you can compare the WRX STi to the EVO's tranny but then agian that car hasn't been brought here yet and no one will absolutley be sure how that one will be until it arrives here. Better safe then sorry

We have a local get together sometime after the EVO gets here. Even if we all don't have one yet. We could do a BBQ and I could get the hook ups with the Chinese food since I'm a cook. Just would need like 5 bucks from everyone or something. Some gameing..... maybe even some car fun if we find a suitable place.. just an idea though.. Besides I still have to go to Japan... hehe
Anywho.. welcome bro

Do/Did you post over at NewCelica.org? I used to post over there a lot and I was planning on gettin a GT-S, but due to a most unfortunate accident, I had to buy a car a lot sooner that I thought I was going to have to, so I didn't end up getting the GT-S. I still hang around with one of the guys from that board. I cruise the board every once and awhile just to what's going on in developments for that car.

Right on man... I personally don't like Type-R's again, just my opinion. The reason I bought my VR6 is very similar to the reason you bought the Celica and not a WRX. In '97 (when I bought my car) the import hot hatch segment was incredibly weak. Everybody else was buying civics, so right away I wasn't into them. Slightly less people had Integras, but if I was going to buy an Integra, I might as well just buy a Civic and do a GSR engine swap, and have a faster car. My original intention when buying the VR6 was to turbocharge it. EIP has gotten a reliable 390 whp out of VR6's. If you've ever seen a video of one of these cars run, it is completely sick. They are spinning the whole way down the quarter mile. Anyway, I've always been a German car nut... the Evo is changing that quite quickly though, because until I can afford a 911 turbo, there's no way I'm going to be able to touch the evo's stock performance for the price in any German car. Sorry If I came off a bit harsh with the celica bashing
