Cool Pics from ITN Rally 6/21

Well, Billy and I did that ITN rally yesterday, just to try it out. And man did we have a blast. We saw the famous MiniMan Paul and nynguah (owner of a black Evo on this board). Yeah, Billy and I made some mistakes, but we had a blast trying to find things, trying to hide from things and driving like a bat outta hell in between! Man, Billy is a wild driver, but he got us to the last 3 checkpoints right on time For first timers, we did pretty well. I think we are both hooked now, and now that we understand it more, we'll be able to do a better job next time. And congrats on getting an award Josh (I just won't mention which award it was ) I hope to see you around in the future. Anyway, here's some pics.

Billy and I worked on a few standard rally commands like
"Wrong way, idiot!"
"That was the checkpoint, you moron!"
"Left, right?" "Right... no left! I said left!"
"which way now?" "I dunno, you're the navigator"

This is the result of the command "turn around", special thanks to the pickup truck who pulled us out in time to make it to the checkpoint only 1 minute late

Famous last words: "Ok, we have about 35 miles to go, and 29 minutes to get there" but the amazing part is that Billy still got us there only 3 minutes late. Too bad we missed the last turn and arrived in the wrong direction

This is the restart area after the dinner break. We got to meet quite a few nice people at this rally, including a mom & son team who did rather well, and a couple who have been doing this for 18 years! All friendly people.

lol, I thought that one couple was weak telling me I should take dremamine with me, but reading a map too closely while your friend is baralling through a twisty canyon isn't easy.

That rally was an absolute blast. We gotta get more evos out there - I was surrounded by scoobys!

I'm going to go dig out my scanner and post the pics they took of us. The scenery was gorgeous, and the opportunity for 'spirited driving' abounded.

Was nice seeing you there, Josh. When I was in the parking lot, someone was joking about the Evo invading, and asked me how I liked it. He must have thought I was you, so I told him I didn't know, because my Lancer was a family car. And I opened my eyes a few times, Billy. Even the wide highway turns can be felt at 100mph +. Sad part is, when I got to work at 4:00am, I found out the meeting was cancelled

It was a lot of fun

We ended up heading back that same evening anyways. We were pretty beat by the time we got home at 4:30 am. If I'd realized we were going to go home the same night, we would have joined the caravan too.

my mr2 did a great job, and its cheap to upgrade, new shocks springs, sway bars and custom strut bars will be less than $800. nice price if i say so myself. =)

Something with comfortable seats and enough room to read and shuffle around with maps, instructions, clock, compass, and flashlight. It should have good handling for when you're late for a checkpoint on twisty roads. And Billy might disagree with me, but I think in this case, an auto trans would be desireable for creeping. An auto would make it a little easier and wouldn't burn out the clutch, like we almost did when we found a surprise checkpoint on an incline, having to creep 20 feet in 2 1/2 minutes! Good job, Billy! Also, we were thinking about renting a car for the next rally. Something with decent handling, power, and rear wheel drive.
