question about CA taxes

Question: I live in Texas. If I buy a car in California and drive it home -- will I have to pay any California taxes?

I was told by a dealership I had to pay CA taxes if I were to drive it home but would not have to pay CA taxes if I shipped it. Is this true?

Yes, that is true. Also, for break in period, you should have it shipped and break it in properly. Cruising down the highway at any given speed, is a good way to glaze the walls.

Thank you. That is what I needed to know.

Supposing it was not new and already broken in and I wanted to drive it home -- paying taxes twice for one purchase makes no sense.
