Evo owners in Cali and illegal mods

Since this guy owns an EVO 9, I figure I posted it here. Mods, my apologies in advance in case its not.

I think this article gives a good insight into the mindset of police in Cali. Notice how the cops called his car "POS Evo". I'm having seconds thoughts about getting an Evo after reading this

The guy who made the thread is an idiot. Everything the officers were saying made sense.

i dont even feel like talking about it because i just read that whole thing, and the OP is a moron.

I read that on socalevo. The OP has a valid point and brings substantial evidence. I worry that I'll get pulled over all the time too, but o well my car is a garagequeen.

I don't know the OP but have seen him a few times and briefly spoken a few times with him in other forums. I get the impression he is a responsible guy, owner of an VIII then IX, and a trust worthy source. In my opinion, I think he is either 1000% correct in that CA LEO's are improperly trained or racially biased; or he doesn't know how to react and communicate to a LEO when getting pulled over. What I couldn't gather from his posts on the police forum was how his demeanor was when stopped. That makes all the difference!

btw.....I have owned a stock VIII (with modded wheels and a shorty antenna) for five years and never had a cop look under the hood. However, I was only stopped once in that time (but that was because a cop thought I was racing a WRX; we were not and they let me go).

I now own a X MR. The cops sure look at me, and I look right back at them, but so far they have had no reason to stop me. That's part of the reason why I like the new X.....it just doesn't _look_ as conspicuous.

To skiracer, if you see this, hang in there bro. You've got a V1 so why have you got stopped for speeding? I'm with you but I question your attitude when being stopped. Also, I've been out of the loop for awhile, but I give you mad props for creating a police forum account and harrassing/educating those bastards.

How would they be "improperly trained"? They are trained to look for body kits (lets face, to a noob, the evo has one), loud exhaust, FMIC, and a wing, (part of the body kit). Do you really think they sit down and go over every single car, and know which ones look like "rice rockets" stock? I dont think so. We buy a evo because of the looks and the performance.. along with that comes attention, and we ALL know that when we sign the papers for the car. So there is NOTHING to complain about.

Yes, we get profiled for being street racers because the kind of car we drive, stock or not. But again, we knew this when we signed those papers.

It is the only way to crack down on street racing, dont hate them because they are trying to make the streets a safer place.

Why not? They're trained to be "Experts". If they don't even know what an Evolution is or looks like, they aren't experts, are they?
It's not that difficult, and IMO, ignorance is not probable cause, and therefore is no excuse to use it to pull over a law-abiding citizen. Ignorance is no excuse for breaking the law, and it shouldn't be an excuse by those enforcing it for an illegal search either.

I agree, they should be trianed better, and they should know what a evo is if they are going to stop it. But in all reality, it doesnt work that way. Police have a lot of more important things to worry about (atleast I hope so), so when they see that big *** wing, or that big *** FMIC.. they are gonna think ricer, and ricer probably means illegal mods. Thats just the way it is, and its not going to change

Also, 95 % of evos are modded, so they see a evo.. there probably thinking its modded.. its just the way things work

Ahhh...yesssssssss.

It's the OP's fault for buying a vehicle of his choosing, and not the cops' for having no idea what a stock car looks like. Those are the same people who love to tell others that ignorance is no excuse. I especially enjoyed the mind reading on the part of the officers, further defining the obvious cognitive limitations common to victims of frontal lobotomies.

Anybody else besides me find it disturbing that the people sworn to protect and serve are using terms such as "ricer, POS imports," etc? Someone should tell them that the term applies to domestic cars as well. The police basically saying that the OP should expects this based on the car's look. So much for innocent until proven guilty.

This has clearly been the most annoying and wasted 15 minutes of my life,

#1, OP=MORON

#2, Cops have it right, but since I have been in cali, since 2003, I Have NEVER been pulled over for the LOOKS of my car, only because I was driving like an idiot ans i deserved it. In that case, If your driving like an IDIOT, or speeding, then the looks WILL HELP. Ive seen ferraris porsches, evrything, and they also "look modded and fast", I have owned a 350z, mustang cobra, etc, and never been pulled over for the "looks" , in fact ive been puleed over more in my wifes Prius! Solution, give this guy a a rope. Hang yourself or get over it!

BTW...i appologize, i just had to rant in order to feel like i have gotten revenge on my 15 minutes of stupidity back!

I had the joy of being in SoCal for a little over 4 months late last year early this year..I got pulled over a few times just for what I was driving...was going 3-4 under limit on a straight road, so its not like I turned without signaling. my sig is part of the conversation I had with the cop.

The op clearly said he wasn't driving eradically and was pulled over many times due to the car's look. Let's be honest here, front mount intercooler, huge wing...c'mon. The cops comment is filled with biased against imports.
