Should I take the dive?

I read that there's a double practice autocross event coming up on September 13 and 14. I've never been to an autocross before, but I'm interested into getting started. Do I need to sign up ahead of time or is it okay to just show up and register? If I do decide to head over there, what should I bring? ANY help would be appreciated.

theres some good info here. a lot of the classifications wont pertain you the EVO.

you might want to call ahead and see if theirs any open spots.
take all the extra crap out of the car BEFORE you go there. (CD's papers.....)

if you have a helmet bring it, if not they have loaners.
WALK THE COURSE!!! and dont be afraid to have a instructor ride along with you. their there to help you, hell they want to go for a ride in a evo too
where is this one at?

most importatly have fun!

Well the event is at California Speedway in Fontana I believe, but it's full now. Damn. Thanks for the advice. I guess I'll just have to keep reading up and hope that I can make it to the next event.

Auto-X is a good way to learn a lot of fast driving techniques but in my opinion the courses are too small to really stretch the evo out...

I prefer road course events...

Practices almost always sell out weeks before the event, but you should still send them an application or something to ask them to be put on the list. Sometimes they give priority to those who did not get accepted to the previous ones. But the races usually don't sell out, so you should come to the one at Buttonwillow on October 13 and/or 14 (you can do one or both days). Besides, this course is much faster (100mph plus compared to the usual top speed of about 60) and you will get to stretch the Evo out a little more, being on an actual race track. I will be there, and maybe Troie (Trance) too. Might be sharing rooms, but even if not, they are like $25 a night there! Anyway, here's some good info for autocrossing in our area. Meanwhile, I hope to see you at other events, like SoCalEvo, SCLC, and look up the Vivid Racing event on the 27th. Open track day on Saturday (forget autocross, this is on a real track!)
