CEL and Low Boost

Hey Guys,

Question: I just had the HKS BOV VTA installed. After 3 days of driving it, the CEL came on. First Question is: (1) Will this harm the engine, any way. (2) With the CEL on, does it lower the boost level to only 12psi. Please help guys!

P.S. Is there anyway of fixing this issue without getting the Recirculation kit?

I haven't heard of a CEL yet that lowers your boost but I am not for sure, normally no. The issue is that you are VTA. This car reacts in several different ways when doing this and honestly none of them will benifit you. I am sure you have been told not to VTA on a MAF car several times but I have heard of a few solutions to get rid of the CEL. (1) Keep driving the car to let the ECU to try and correct its self and within a day or two of normal driving it will turn off. (2) Reset your ECU and check your O2 sensors or use a O2 simulator. (3) usually doesn't work, reset your ECU and try again.

I unplugged my battery for 30 minutes and it went off. I will be getting the Recirculating kit soon!

If you have a S-afc II, there is a function built into it to allow you to vent out to the atmosphere. It's the Dec. mode. I have the same blowoff valve and I vta and it works fine.

VTA? does that mean vent to atmosphere? is that wat u EVO guys use around here.. lol.. im so lost in the new lingo..

anyways.. if ur guys setup is anything like ours.. 4g63T running mas.. venting BOV shouldnt harm ur car in anyway.. it will just make u run rich in between shifts.. the mas thinking more air should wen its not cause its vented thus richer condition inbetween shifts or wen u want to show of ur "VTA" .. actually in the DSM neck of the woods.. "VTA" can lead to weird things in different cars.. besides the obvious running rich.. some have weird idle.. and even die.. but those are the few things u gotta live with if u want to VTA... give and take i guess u can say..

ur cars are OBDII? u should pull the code of the CEL.. see wat it really is.. with my GS-T since venting i got a P0120 TPS right wen i started venting my HKS SSQV.. u reset ecu.. it woudl come back.. along came my GSX.. running vented HKS SSQV.. CEL would pop on on occassions but not as much.. (all cars are different).. i get my recirculation fitting for it.. no CEL ever.. but wen recirculated the BOV is nearly quiet.. then thats why i got Greddy Type S.. still loud recirculated..

as for the SAFC-II.. where is this function built in to allow you to vent to atmosphere? cause i would like to know cause i have an SAFC2.. haha.. safc2 last i heard only adjust a/f trims at closed/open loop.. but u cant do anything bout in between shifts wen that BOV vents.. so dont think the SAFC2 will help u not get a CEL.. recirculating is the key..

and the low boost problem could be caused by a boost leak.. check alll clamps, etc.. unless the EVO has a mechanism wen u have a CEL it tursn down the boost..

good luck
