Going to class at around 10:30AM should be okay with traffic. Stay at the lab or your office; you get stuff done. Trust me. For on-campus, there are some grad housing programs. I don't know the details but contact them and let them know that you are a grad student. It's not the dorms; they are like apts pretty close to campus. Just hope that they have parking lots for the apt or it's the streets, i.e. no parking.

Well, if you went to grad school, you would know there are exceptions to every rule...

lol i wish i wuz rich... i feel so out of place here, not being able to afford anything, but it is kool seeing how rich folk live, maybe one day i can make it big like that too, but at least it'll be nice for the next 4 years til i graduate, then back to the lil lowermiddle class redneck ghetto i go... but ye... by 10:30 traffic isn't so bad... u definitely don't wanna be there between 7-9 AM, and 3-6 PM tho hell.. i git horrible traffic on friday nites when i go home at about 7-7:30 ish. Living is nice tho... one of my cuzins who graduated a few years ago had a sweet apartment really close to campus. As for me... i'm chillin in a suite on campus... 4 people, 2 bedroom, shared huge bathroom. very nice n comfy and i bet a lot of the apartment suites around here are about the same including a living room area.

At the end of the day, you will realize that your street smarts are more valuable and practical then what you will pull from either a B/A or graduates degree.

Believe me, with both degrees, your experience and practicality will always pay off in the long run

DragonLancer, work hard and it will all pay of someday. I'd like to help out if I can, because my family was pretty poor and it was really tough. Many out there had it even worse, so who am I to complain?

rubelcon, I know I should just let this go, but I couldn't get pass your immature comments. Seriously, just grow up. I would think that's the smart thing to do.

My apologies to the mods for going off in tangent.

CLeeEvo, i bet your glad youre out of Ithaca though huh? I turned down law school there after visiting...i gotta give you props on staying there for so long. A buddy of mine thats in law school with me right now said it wasn't so bad, but thats by far the minority perspective from what i hear.

Brian, here's the thing though. There seems to be this assumption underlying what you're saying, namely that "street smarts," experience, and practicality are to some extent inversely proportional to degrees in higher education. I'd have to disagree with you and say that this assumption is false. All other things being equal, there isn't any real reason nor any evidence that would indicate such a phenomena.

I would argue that most people getting degrees in higher education are just as experienced and practical in the aggregate, the only difference being that they have a higher ed degree to go along with it.

Undoubtedly, there will be those without higher ed degrees that excel over those with higher ed degrees, but that its neither representative of what generally happens, nor does it square with the clear and convincing evidence that people with higher ed degrees tend to make more money (i.e. "paying off in the long run." To wit, a real general example for you.

A first year attorney at a big law firm in downtown LA starts off at $125,000 not including bonuses which range from $5000-15000. Each year of experience you gain as an attorney nets you another $10,000-15,000 grand. In about 5-10 years, you're either a partner making $400,000-$2,000,000 a year, or youre making around $300,000 as an experienced associate attorney.

There are plenty, of course, without higher ed degrees, but with much experience and practicality that make more that attorneys do. But, they are by far the exception. Do MOST people with experience and practicality and "street smarts" but no college degree make this much? Of course not.

Hey alex_alex, I hated and will always hate Ithaca/Cornell with a passion. I'd never do it again. There is a reason why we have the suicide bridge. But I did learn tremendously because studying is the ONLY thing that you can do for fun. I say if you don't feel the same way, then you probably weren't an EE.

DragonLancer, I work as an electrical engineer.

westwood is totally an awesome area to live in. My best friend lives on Strathmore, at this house they call "tree house" cause it looks like it's in a tree. Big party place. But yeah, I love the whole area, and the atmosphere... Gotta love the Deedee Reese cookies!!!
