Question for So Cal folks

I'm quite a ways up north here in Oregon. I found a great low mileage Evo. I was curious if anyone here has had experience with this particular dealership. It's from ViveMotors

Here is a link for the car. Just curious if anyone knows anything about the car or dealership. Thanks

I don't know about the dealer or the car but at 35K miles there can't be a lot wrong with it. It looks good in the pictures.

It would be a have to check out in person for sure but from looks alone it's not bad.

Funny you bring that dealership up. I actually just purchased my evo x from another dealership but that was the first place i stopped by. They had 1 other evo x in ww and that evo 9. He also said that he had a gg evo 9 as well, if memory serves me right. I drove in the evo 9 and it seemed fine but he doesnt allow customers to drive the cars. Only lets them ride shotgun. however, he told me someone already had a deposit on it. So i test drove the evo x. That was a totally different story. Advertised as a SSS package evo x, but unfortunately it was originally the red color. Supposedly it was in a accident and not considered salvage. But he painted it a non-oem color white. Stating he just loved the color and decided to repaint the whole car, but the engine bay. The headlights were NOT the sss headlights, they were halogen. When asked he said, i think the last owner put them on there. He was nice and all that, but i wouldnt trust the integrity of his cars. With that being said, who knows it can be in perfect running condition. Since you live so far i would definitely talk to him in-depth before running down here for a purchase.

I don't know that dealer. I will give you some candid comments, and I could be wrong.

I bought a salvage evo from up in sacramento many years ago and it was awesome. Just bought it from some guy that bought several stolen or wrecked ones, and make 1 out of all of them. Not what anyone would consider a trustworthy dealer. So...

That area, especially 15 minutes West is a meca of junk yards and salvage yards. The 91 freeway there is along a long industrial corridor that is basically desert. So the other posters comment about a wrecked car didn't surprise me.

Then their inventory looks like just evo and STIs, which is fine, but it starts to sound more like a place that takes 'troubled' cars, and makes them whole. That could be great, like mine was, but be weary.

I would encourage private party sales if you have the choice, and can get your own financing. Its a bit far away for you to have any recourse. If that still doesn't scare you off, then ask for detailed pics of the underside. Like a dozen of them. Same for engine compartment, and specifically in the trunk with the carpet and cardboard out. You are looking for interior accident damage or wrinkles. Post them here, and we can all chime in.

I love troubled cars, but they have to represent a value. If that one is perfect then its good low miles and I suppose a fair price. I don't know what they go for now a days really. Friends of mine have sold their evos for what I thought was a bargain, and much less than that. Those cars were often tracked, but it great condition.

Good luck.

Car looks decent for the price. It is a base Evo with swapped in SSL seats and door panels. Has an 8 wing and JDM rear (+'s). Steering wheel looks particularly warn for the mileage. Rear fenders look slightly pulled to me, and if they were, they were likely rolled or cut as well. Headlights look like they could have been painted inside.

Carfax and Autocheck would be good to look at, along with looking at car in person. It is a little strange they've had it for sale so long at a relatively low price and to me, that says there's likely something wrong with it.

Also, the hood is open on the silver MR and it's missing VIN's on the front bumper and driver fender, suggesting a previous accident, even though the dealer is saying no accidents on that one. It would be interesting to see the hood popped up on the white one. Silver one: http://vivemotors.com/2006-mitsubishi-evolution-69.html

Good comments ^

By the way guys in the industry of car flipping and fixing all agree that carfax and other similar reporting mechanism are a joke. They are very easy to get around, and that industry gets the cars in most cases before they have been reported. I wouldn't put any value on those reports not having records contained in them that would make you avoid the car. Businesses that sell cars with some checkered history deal with that as their very first step.

A friend of mine that owned a prominent car audio installation business was thinking to get into that industry and sell used cars, and he paid for a license for a couple of years and went to many auctions. The license was like 25k a year, and he learned all of the underbelly of that business. He ended not doing that because of the ethical and moral conflict he had with how its all done. He then sold his stereo shop because with just that he couldn't make enough money. I mention that only so you understand how motivated he was to make that work, but how shady it must have been for him not to enter that arena.
