For Dec 15th info and what to bring, scroll down 3 posts

Surfer: yeah, I've done 2 races on my stock tires already. A little of a handicap, but still really fun. Actually, you're in luck, because our region has categories for street tires... SK1 and SK2, provided your car doesn't have too many mods. I'm putting my car into STS, and Tristar's right, I'll be a little of an underdog, but I'm in it for the fun, not to win. But if Chicago races are anything like most other places, an auto isn't really a disadvantage. Most of our courses are in second (autos just use low gear). Surfer, let me know if you wanna go Dec 15th. We're making it an official meet and going somewhere afterwards.

Dec 15th at Hollywood Park. $35 ($20 if you're an association member, membership is $30/year) Racers need to be there by 7:30am, and we'll probably be done by 1:00. We're having a Lancer meet after the race, so anyone who isn't racing should be there by 12:00 (come early if you want to see the racing) Here's a map to get there. Next post is going to be of what to bring and stuff.

Preparations for autocross...

- You'll want to have about 40psi in stock tires, 45psi in performance tires (drop by a gas station before you get there).
- A full or almost full gas tank helps weight distribution (why not fill your tank while your at the gas station airing your tires?)
- if you have it, bring a tire guage
- if you have it, bring a snell certified motorcycle or auto helmet (I'll have a few extras if needed)
- comfortable clothes and (closed toe) shoes, sunglasses
- drinking water, snacks, beach chairs, hat, sun block
- Driver's license. If a minor, you need parent's consent too.

Once you get there...

- sign the waiver entering the gate
- Find me (Lancer Pits) or a good place to pit, unload all loose items from your car and trunk
- Take car and helmet to tech inspection
- Take inspection sheet to registration
- Put number on your car (masking tape will be provided)
- check tire pressure
- RACE AND HAVE FUN!!!!!

If you have any questions before the event, pm me. If you have any questions at the event, don't hesitate to ask me or a race official.

Classifications...

SK1 category is for mostly stock cars with street tires (140+ treadware rating). Rims must be the same size and offset as stock (15x6 45mm for Lancers). Cat-back exhaust and front roll-bar is pretty much the only mods allowed.

H Stock category is the same as SK1, but allows racing tires (street legal slicks under 140 treadware rating)

STS category is for most of us. Any naturally aspirated car under 3.0 liters. Allows shocks, struts, springs, sway bars, strut bars, rims up to 7.5 width (any diameter), street tires up to 225 width (140+ treadware rating), cat-backs, shifters, seats, functional spoilers, rotors, intakes, and headers.

STX is same as STS but with cars up to 5 liters or 2 liters turboed.

For more info on car classes, go to http://www.moutons.org/sccasolo/index.shtml

*hint: for those of you who think they need mods, stock cars do very well in SK1 category. Also, suspension mods are a little more favorable than engine mods. My lancer kicks my dad's GT350 mustang's @$$ every time!

Surfer, since all lancers are in the same category, you are allowed OZ size (15x6) as well as ES size (I think 14x5.5?) and still fit in the stock and SK1 categories. PM me with all of your mods and I'll tell you what category you're in for sure, k?

WRC, I think I'm working for your run group. I'm scared to ask what puts your car in the SM category? This is gonna be one sick ride! A pro rally team brought their WRX rally car out last Sep, that was cool.

Urban: my car is in SM cuz it doesn't fit anywhere else. It will not be competitive there at all yet, I will be running on street tires anyways. I will be running X class actually, but in the SM run group. Or I might change my mind until then, and run SM I am building my car up for next season, should be quite interesting.

Yeah, I used to run a slightly modded V6 Camaro in ESP (talk about being an underdog), but I figured why not be in a category and get a place, it doesn't cost any more. Anyway, you can compare you times to mine

OK, so I got WRC, Surfer, me and my dad. If anybody else is coming please let me know so I can try to reserve a large enough pit space. I'm gonna show up around 7:00 just to get set up and stuff.
