West region body/tuner/performance shop discussion [MERGED]

I'm in Mountain View and prefer not to give any more money to Capitol Mitsubishi.

Which shops still have a good reputation for service? So far I haven't had much luck with shops in the bay area....

Willing to drive a bit for good quality service.

you've got plenty to select from - not in any specific order. You can also check the evoempire.org vendor section for any specials going on.

Works (Sonoma) worksrally.com
Speedelement (Fremont) http://evoempire.org/topic/2747-30k-...nance-service/
GST (Hayward) gstmotorsports.com
FFTEC (Union City) fftec.com

nothing in the south bay/penninsula anymore? (i think there used to be someone in san jose'ish area)

b0yw0nder Jul 6, 2011 11:21 PM

strangely enough, the dealership is the cheapest option

however i have a feeling that fftec and speed element are going to do a more thorough job.

any opinions on whether it is really necessary to pull the water pump and replace it while the timing belt is being done?

Has anyone heard of Works? in the bay area

Ive been checking out there web site and they seem to have some cool stuff. Was thinking about getting there stage 1 package. Anyone got any info on these guys. Is it a good buy? I finally got my evo and its time for the mods.:D

If you have the money to spend then sure why not. There's more affordable options out there. Look around the forum and ask members here if you shall ever need any help. ;)

If you want a mediocre tune that's a waste of money for what you get, then go to WORKS.

Otherwise call up some local reputable tuners and have them work with you so you can get the most for your money, like GST or FFTEC.

i don't think i would get a tune, but i have there axle back and mid pipe(modified for jdm rear by them) the shift knob and there drop in filter. quality top notch. and fitment is as good as OEM. everything i get from them is the best.

i really like these guys{thumbup}
i do wish it was not as expensive though:crap:

Im in the same boat. Im looking to get some basic maintenence done and was wondering whats a good shop to get it done. I was looking at FFTEC and GSP just didnt know which to pick. I just need to get some fluids changed and maybe a tune and just an overall look at the car since I just bought it.

Hear of them? Buddy they are big evo tuners on the west coast, if you want them to build you a record setting EVO i would call either of them up since you live in the bay area, now if you lived in the L.A. San Diego area, i would hit up RRE or Reese tuning, all four of those shops are top notch and contribute greatly to these forums.

Go to Full Function. Good service there. They just moved to a bigger location. I would suggest Speed Element too but they don't do tuning anymore. They can do everything else for you though. Those are the only two shops I will take my Evo to if it's something I can't do myself. Don't bother with Works. I had bought a Works Aperture throttlebody 2 years ago and the seals were leaking straight from their shop. I asked them about replacing them and they told me they would replace the seals for full price on parts and service as it was probably a customer error during install. Funny thing is I bought the unit from them with the seals already installed. The guy didn't want to hear it after I told him I bought it with the seals pressed in by them and the only thing I did was just bolted it onto my intake manifold. Oh well that's the last time I let them take my money only to provide me with no support afterwards.

Is FFTEC also a good choice?
