Thumbs up WORKS Pillow Ball Shock Mounts

I see the WORKS rear pillow ball shock mounts have been added to the STORE. I can highly recommend the addition of these to the stock rear shocks (with the stock rear springs). We’ve been running them for some time now and the feedback from the rear of the car is so much better, but much stiffer as well.

For Autox, big improvement over the stock rubber mounts. It’s surprising how much cushiness and give there is to the stock rubber mounts until you swap ‘em out for something solid like these mounts.

Tell ya what, first time you turn in on a corner they will put a big smile on your face. A little stiff (I think) for daily driving, but a great addition to the stock KYBs for various grassroots race applications without the expense associated with a coil over set-up.

I might have to give these a try. I noticed that the Evo tends to take its time settling the rear during the turn-in. I didn't realize the Evo was using a rubber shock mount on the rear.

As a worthless comparison, I replaced the RSM's on my dads E36 M3 with the solic Ground Control mounts and the rear settles beautifully. It makes the Evo feel almost "wild" on the track.

This is true, a little slow on the weight transfer and has a little too much body roll. Now that the “feel” is better I can catch it just where I want entering a corner and not turn in too soon creating a driver induced push.

Would you recommend getting the rears before the fronts?

So just adding the pillowball mounts increases ride stiffness noticeably? I didn't know the stock rubber mounts did so much cushioning!

I’d go with the camber plates first or add the rear mounts in conjunction with the addition of camber plates up front. Reason being that the Evo has an inherent push problem (like all street cars) and I don’t think you would realize the total benefit in the rear because you may create additional problems up front, make sense?

Suspension is not only a matter of balance but also compromise, make changes in the wrong order and you can end up with an ill handling car.

As far as stiffness goes, it’s not the same stiffness like adding springs with higher rates, its more transmission of vibration and road sounds. Those big rubber donuts used in the stock mounts are what help give you a nice smooth ride. With the pillow ball mounts the upper mount point of the shock now pivots versus “gives”. Good for handling, but not so good for any loose fillings you may have.

Make no mistake; you will be sacrificing a certain amount of comfort for vastly improved handling.
