Any plans to offer email flashes?

I really would like to get a Works flash for reliability reasons mostly, but my Evo 9 is my daily driver so I really can't have a few days downtime to ship off my ECU to you all. Also, I'd like to get a turboback exhaust and air filter to go along with it, but there would probably be delay from the time I got the parts until I could get it installed, and I most likely wouldn't want to drive on the tune without the parts installed right?

Because of those two reasons an email flash would be an ideal solution for me, if you offered it that is. Any plans for it?

Thanks!

I believe WORKS so "no go" on the email flash route.

What exactly do you mean by an email flash?

Complete flash via attachment to email. The owner can then purchase a cable and upload the flash directly to his ECU via cable, flash, and program.

It ain't happening any time soon. In fact, WORKS recently began locking their ECUs to prevent people from downloading their maps.

I was told at one point that they might be developing their own software application which would take one of their ROMs they send you in an encrypted format, decrypt it, and load it onto the ECU already locked. I wasn't given an ETA on this, however.

It's been explained to me that their flash is their "intellectual property" and until they can somehow secure the flash from being looked at they will not offer email flashes.

Speaking from experience of being a Network/Systems Engineer in IT for over 15 years someone will always reverse engineer software to pick apart the hardware and or other software.

I personally wouldn't trust getting a map from anyone other than WORKS, there are so many things that could be changed in the settings to cause problems or worse yet engine failure if people started downloading other people's maps and someone wants to be a joker and do some serious damage.

I lean on the side of having an emailed flash sent to me so I don't have to drop $60 each time to overnight a package and have my car down for 3 days. It's convenient for me since I am in Minnesota and WORKS is in California.

I have that software that decrypts scrambled ecus, have had it for some time. I've seen many "scrambled" ecus so far. Nothing is ever locked.

Take Al's advice, and if you spend 30k on a car, pay to get it custom tuned

Not to be pedantic, but none of the ECUs are "scrambled." The flasher merely locks out would-be EcuFlashers by changing the handshake sequence by changing some of the assembly code in the ECU. As long as you can figure out the proper values to send, you can still get the ECU to spit out its ROM.

Or you can do what I did, and just bypass the protocol entirely and get the ECU to dump its memory beginning at a certain address.
