WORKS 76 vs. 70 mm Downpipe

Planning on getting a downpipe soon and wanted to know if it wouldn't matter which one I get. I got a stock turbo, stock 02 housing, WORKS ABM and intermediate pipe and high flow cat. Also wondering why the 70 mm is more expensive than the 76mm

search the works forum. more expensive b/c 70mm pipe is hard to come by.

70mm is better unless you plan to go well over 400hp

If it was my car/choice, I'd go for the 70mm.

I got a good deal on a used ceramic coated dp(76mm) so I'll just get that one. As for 02 housing upgrades, can the WORKS dp accept other brand housings or only there own housing?

The WORKS Exhale DP was designed in conjunction with our cast O2 housing. It also uses an adapter plate that allows it to fit onto the original OEM housing. As far as working with others, it's not something we engineered for and could go either way.

Finally got the 76 mm downpipe! I gotta say this is a work of art! Very nice WORKS! I just have one question. It came with a brass colored ring that actually fits in the donut gasket. Is this some type of adapter for aftermarket o2 housings? For now I'm gonna mate the dp to the stock 02 housing on my 03.

Hey Jamie (or someone else from WORKS) can you address the question of the performance difference btween the 70 and 76mm pipe? My understanding is that the smaller pipe is better for low-end torque while the bigger pipe is better for high hp applications (say over 400hp like someone suggested). I am more interested in low-end pull and wont be modding to high hp so would be nice to know which pipe would be more suitable.
Thanks.

yes that is the adaptor there talking about. now if that fit's the stock o2 housing it should fit all o2 housings that can fit the stock d/p. g/l

Yes, the 70mm pipe will help your low-end power (i.e. peak torque), whereas the 76mm pipe will help top-end flow (i.e. peak horsepower). Both sizes are a huge improvement over the OEM pipe, which is not only smaller, but has several kinks in its design. Both pipes should also perform within a few percent of one another--even with cams and an OEM-housed turbo upgrade (i.e. FP's WR, Green, etc...). So select the size that better suites your performance needs.

See attached. There's also a flat, semi-flexible gasket (same ID as the adapter) that should be used between the adapter and the OEM O2 housing.
