programable P2?

Hey I have a question for the Works crew... I run the P2 and am happy with it. However as I have had the car almost a year now, I have learned a lot and would like to begin to play a little bit. I live in Boston, a seemingly barren wasteland of Evo tuning and sending my ECU out every time I want to try a new mod is not practical. My question is this...

Would works be willing/able to tune/flash or set parameters that constitute a P2 flash on a stand alone or piggy back using thier larger restrictor pill for boost control?

There are many products and services availible that offer this but I have had a good experience with Works and I'd like to give them the business if possible.

What WORKS really needs to do is create something like a Cobb Access Port.

After some searching and reading, the way to go for me might be to run the P2 as my baseline and tune from there with a utec and wide band o2. Any reason why this wouldn't work? If you guys ( Works) got something else cooking, speak up!

There's no reason why it shouldn't work.

Rumor has it that Works is planning on doing just that - adding a Utec to their bag of tricks...

It would be really sweet if WORKS offered a tuned map for the UTEC. That would make me buy one very soon!

I second that emotion. UTEC and WORKS tuning = winning combo.

to paraphrase what I've read from searching here...going complete standalone (like AEM) is a whole new level of having to know your isht.
Fan duty cycles, cold starts, I've heard enough to scare me away. It can be done, and is aparently done quite a bit, but for a daily driver I have read from tuners posting here who seem to know, that no other computer will safely handle atmospheric changes, run AC. etc. as well as the stock ECU. If this were my dedicated racecar I'd consider it, but still way over my head for my commuter car.

I want the UTEC to give me pc. access, datalogging and fine tuning for additional mods on top of my P2/ stock ECU. If Works has plans to support this...even better.

BTW, anyone know what the advantage of seperate coil drivers is (in the UTEC) over using the stock ECU's?

I actually like the access port idea better than the UTEC. I like the UTEC, don’t get me wrong, but different strokes for different folks. Someone like MalibuJack loves to tinker with all those settings, me I just want a good tune for racing. WORKS Brain Flash has been bullet proof for us, but if we could swap out different maps with something like the access port without sending the ECU back and forth that would be great.

I think if WORKS had all three, Brain Flash, Access Port and UTEC, they would have a killer combination that would cover all customer needs from basic daily driver to hard core racer.

I really like the direction WORKS is going and all I can say to the WORKS faithful is stay the course, more good things are coming!

You sound like a man with some inside information.

Took your advice Jan, stopped by the shop on Tuesday and spent an entire morning with Pete going over our plans for the car over the next two years of racing. I took my little note book with me and asked him everything I had on my mind. I was very, very satisfied with what I heard.

We'll be sticking with WORKS for a very long time.
