⛔★ Evo 8 tuning, logged KnockSum 2-8 knock count fix?
Hey guys I just set up my Evo 8 and OpenPort 2.0 to standalone log. When I do a 2k-7k RPM pull in 3rd gear I get a lot of knocking at 3000-7000 RPM.
3000-5000 RPM I get 1-3 knocks up/down
5100-7000 RPM I get 4-8 knocks!!!
WideBand LC-1 shows AF Ratio between 5k-7k RPM as 11.9 to 11.1 which is pretty rich, what else could be causing my knocking??
What do I need to adjust in my maps to lower the knocking?
Any help much appreciated, I'm pretty much a noob at tuning.

Is that 33.0936 boost ? Thats Way too much timing . I'd shoot for a ramp from 0-3 from 4000 and make your way up to 5-8 at 5500 then up to 12-14@8000. Smooth timing changes . 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 etc..
AFR should be 11.1-11.5 on most fuels. These are old engines and running a richer mixture typically cools the cylinder.
Its not going to live a good life like that. I'd recommend bringing it to a professional or at least take some time and educate yourself. There is alot of information out there on these cars.
Timing .. less is more in the end.

yes 33.09 is boost but the scaling is OFF, I think my boost gauge / very expensive electric boost controller (e-boost2) was reading around 22psi across the board.
It is running 11.5-11.9 AFR, see the wideband readings, first column in the picture above.
Isn't that pretty good or should I add more fuel across the whole map?
I see it now, at 6375 RPMs my timing goes form 15 down to 12 and the knocking goes from 3 to 8. But I thought lowering the timing would reduce the knock not make it worse?
I try to smooth the timing here.

I think you are too lean. What octane are you on? If pump gas I shoot for 11.2 for wot pulls and no leaner than 11.5 for power. The above poster is right you have way too much timing. I'd start over with 0 and add timing incrementally until you start seeing knock. Also you must not have big jumps from cell to cell in the timing map, no more than 3 a count difference from each block if you can. Good luck and don't blow up your motor.

Yea pump gas 91 octane, and I was told it was tuned by AMS for 400whp at 23psi, but I'm not sure if that was really done... sellers say a lot
I'm looking to fix the knock not blow it up

Ok so whats the easiest way to add fuel_ to the whole map? Can I just do this by injector scaling? Also I can't get the scaling right on my boost logging, I've tried a bunch of different stuff, nothing shows me simple -20vacuum to +22psi. This is what everyone seems to be running but it gives me crazy high numbers :
paramname=Boost-old
paramid=0x38
scalingrpn=x,0.19347,*,14.5,-

If your fuel trims are good I wouldn't touch the scaling. Simplest way is to make adjustments to the fuel and timing maps and keep logging. Have you read/watched merlins guide to tuning? That was a huge help for me when I was learning. Also are you on a stock rom or tephra?

My rom is 94170014 - Evo 8 2003
I just tried Tephra v7 96530706, but I went back to 0014 because a lot of stuff was out of wack on v7.
Just did a lot of logging:
Fuel_ trims is IDLE: +9 to +10.5 (always need more fuel_)
Fuel_ trim CRUISING at 45mph 5th gear: +4 to +6 (always need more fuel_)
so I was thinking about adding more fuel_ by lowering the scaling or should I mess with the injector battery_ latency instead?

Get those trims in check before going any further.

I got my idle and cruise fuel trim to within +-2
I did this by lowering my scaling from 665 to 609 (precision 780cc injectors), and fine tuning the battery_ injector latency tiny bit.

Sooo my question is by lowering my injector scaling from 665 to 609 (which is about 9% more fuel), does that also add 9% more fuel across my whole WOT map?
