New water pump leaky :( copper spray ok?

First off, special thanks to Kracka and TKRPerformance for helping me do the tbelt job on my car last weekend. It took a long time, but it was a great learning experience! Everything runs like absolute clockwork, but I have one small but ultimately awful issue: the water pump leaks out the back of the block. It does not leak in teh timing area (all belts are dry) and does not leak at the return pipe (normally across the front of the motor on a dsm, it's on teh back on an evo). Its like its leaking out the side of the gasket!

Anyways, I used copper spray on both sides of the gasket, but not the bolts (thought that'd be silly), so I'm not sure if i scraped the gasket going in (it is a damn tight fit!) or if its leaking past the bolts or if copper on the gasket was the wrong thing to use?

Any advice would be appreciated, I am not looking forward to ripping the car all apart again, but you live and you learn.

ps--yes I re-torqued all bolts on the water pump, and again on the two you can get to w/everything back together...still no difference. This is a tiny tiny dribble of a leak and it is SO frustrating!

torque the bolt(s) closest to the leak a little tighter and see if it stops

I'm dealing with the same issue, just finished the 60k job and the water pump is leaking. the gasket looked good & the bolts were all torqued but I'm going to double check them tomorrow.

How'd you end up resolving this issue?

I usually use a thin coat of rtv on the gasket to seal and imperfections between both sealing surfaces. If any bolts go into a water jacket, I use rtv or thread sealant on the bolt threads.

I would too...copper spray isn't so much for this type of job.
