Power output for Evo 8 with Stock Cams?

What should be the power output of a tuned Evo 8 with bolts ons (TBE, Filter, DV) and Stock Cams on 93 octane gas? I guess tuned stock turbo Evo 8 with bolt ons on 93 should be running close to 22 PSI. From what I have seen that stock cammed Evo 8 produce less hp than stock cammed Evo 9. And many times a significant lower HP numbers.

if your set on running stock cams, get yourself some adj. cam gears.

they really wake up the stock cams when set to -5/-5

stock cams usually nose over / stop pulling hard @ ~6,200

-5/-5 will pull hard to 7k without giving up much power on the low-end

The evo IX has more aggresive cams and a larger compressor, and hotside(10.5 vs 9.8) if the 8 is a 03-04. The extra power is not just in the cams alone.

The reason I ask is that I have an Evo 8 with exhaust and I did a self tune and went to the dyno and got 265 awhp with the stock 9.8 turbo. Then I added a 20G with the 10.5 hotside and got 295 awhp.

I thought that my numbers were low, specially on the stock turbo. But I guess the cams are holding the power on my car (or my tuning sucks). Or maybe I have a low power evo. I will add cams for sure I just wanted to know how far I was from a nicely tuned evo 8.

You need an intake, get rid of the stock box, you will see some gains there.

Well we don't know the type of dyno and the stock airbox is holding you back a little. Plus I'm sure the tune is pretty conservative. 290-300whp on a dynojet is common with some boltons and no cams.

Dyno was a dynojet. Stock airbox with a works drop in. I was told by a tuner that the stock airbox is preety good. Tune was not on the edge. I actually tuned it on the street. I will plot a pull later for some critique. Knock maps are unchanged.

Yeah but you will still be able to pull another 30 hp out of the car from an intake. It would be safe to say 95% of the evo's on the planet have an aftermarket intake.

Any idea what kind of gains this mod alone will give ?

Hks 272s were giving 20-25whp back in the day. I'm assuming slightly less otherwise more people would have been doing it. I usually see people with cams but no cam gears, they usually help to tweak the kind of powerband you want though.

30 awhp???? Maybe 5~10 if your setup drop in is not good. The GM 3 Port helps hold boost till redline. It is not that the filter will produce power is that it will let the turbo build more boost and sometimes without heating too much the AIT vs a restrictive drop in.

Fine maybe that number was a bit crazy but dude get yourself a better intake. Get ride of the stock stuff and buy a set of HKS 272's. Check the sig that is on a super mild tune

I thought the 20g wasn't too useful for the evo
