Anyone have Rust problems on Evos?
Hi everyone, I think the Evo is a sick car, therefore I'm researching it. Has anyone had any rust problems with their Evos, or is the metal used of excellent quality and therefore very rust resistant. Thanks!

Is the trunk the only place, or are people getting rust underneath the car, doors, rockers, frame rails, suspension mounts, in other words places where the rusty part can't be removed?

I have rust on both rear door frames, along the edge of the rear quarter panel where the door closes to the car. The 'excuse' from the dealership is that it is caused from excessive rock dinging the body panel. My question to them was how rocks were finding just that one little edge spot, about 1.5 inches long. They jsutu shrugged and said that when it rusts thru, come back. Anyone else having this problem?

My car had quite a few spots on the underbody, trunk, lower engine bay (near the wheel wells) and the rear bumper area, It was light surface rust. Here is how you deal with rust:
1.) Sand with low grit sandpaper (i.e. 40 grit) until paint and rust is gone
2.) clean with soapy water
3.) Mask off area and spray 3-4 coats of high build primer
4.) Wet sand (use VERY fine grit) primered area until smooth
5.) Clean with soap water and re-mask
6.) spray 2 coats of base coat from www.paintscratch.com
7.) Wet sand base coat until smooth (optional)
Most of the underbody, trunk, and engine bay does NOT have a layer of clear coat, so it is not needed. It matches perfectly on my car.
