AEM Tru-Boost vs Manual Boost Controller

AEM Tru-Boost vs Manual Boost Controller

I am looking at getting the AEM Tru-Boost as its a gauge and boost controller in one but curious on peoples thoughts on it vs a manual boost controller?

Is it better to have a manual boost controller or does the Tru-Boost do good enough?

Honestly they seem to behave the same to me. In my experience neither holds the boost setting to redline, they both taper off. Meaning if you set it to 21 psi, you get 21 psi but as the rpm rises the boost level drops to about 17-18 psi by redline. The advantages are manual is cheaper and the AEM is adjustable on the fly. Also the AEM has overboost protection plus multiple boost settings. I've never used the Grimmspeed but I would believe its better because when tuned, you can set boost by gear and hold boost better until redline.
The manual boost controller and AEM is more user friendly, the Grimspeed is for more advanced users.

I also was reading you need a tune after installing the Grimm. I plan on getting one but after I add a few things. Im going through the $100 mods thread and making sure my evo is checking those items off but I know I will need a boost gauge and a boost controller so was thinking of knocking those both off with one. The Grimmspeed says it makes boost faster which is a + but im still a newbie and this is the first car I am actually getting into. Unfortunately for me there isn't a big EVO community over here in Germany.

Every boost controller really needs a tune, you can't just put in a boost controller and raise the boost without actually tuning the car.

Understand, I was hooking it more just to have the gauge for now but saw it did both functions so I have no intentions on raising the boost as of yet but for in the future.
