Shift knob

Had my 02 lancer for a while and going to finally put some money into some worn out parts. How can I get this look? Is this the stock evo shift knob? I'm only finding the leather one online. Would like to find the spacer and the knob. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The leather one is stock, the pictured shift knob may be found on the MR version? (6 speeds)

I suggest looking into a short shifter as well because a knob on our stock shifter would look quite out of place (take your stock knob off and take a look at the two different thread sizes...)

Check out the lancer in my signature for an example

Thanks for the info. You have a big ball.

So are you saying that the Evo's MR knob and little spacer would not fit the lancer's unit?

That 'spacer' is actually a lock-out lever. It prevents people from accidentally shifting into reverse while shifting up from 5th to 6th gear. If someone that owned a 6-speed wanted to shift into reverse, that lever would have to be pulled up in order to unlock the shifter, allowing the shifter to engage the reverse gear.

The mechanism for that lever is integrated into the shifter. Therefore the only way to obtain that lever would be to obtain the 6-speed shifter.

thanks for the info. i never had a six speed, and come to think of it, the getrac 6speed in the supra has a similar look, so that makes sense (i swapped the tt engine in my supra, but left the w58 5speed, so that is my reference). but yeah, thanks.

It's not worth the effort trying to get that piece. I researched doing it for my MR2 Spyder a long time ago cause my friend has a Evo 9 MR.

I'm just surprised no one makes (and believe me, I've looked everywhere) a spacer for under the knob on 5speeds for a unique 6speed look. Basically a machined aluminum hourglass with a hole. Who can machine me this piece?

If you put one on, you won't have enough thread for the shift knob

maybe not on a short shifter but the stock one should have enough room^

...but I don't understand why you'd want it if there was no functionality to it

i made one out of aluminum at my work for my car. i installed a short throw shifter, then i cut the threads off. i made 8-32 tapped hole around the base 120 degrees apart to mount it with and used lock tight to keep them from coming loose

FYI, if you don't want your boot to look squashed, you can remove the top plastic piece on it, hide a larger amount of material inside the boot, then put the piece back on...

I took an inch off mine and was even able to eliminate the top half of the plastic piece because the bottom part slides right into my shift knob

yeah i lost the plastic piece. i'm just going to fold down the excess and ziptie it from underneath so it's tight up against the knob. i just been too busy doing other things on the car and still need to rip the console out to do some more wiring. once i rip it out and complete that, i will finish it. just been too lazy and now it's freezing outside.

It is a look I like. The getrag on the 6speed supra had it, and I left the w58 after a TT swap in my 93.5 NA Supra, so it was always something I liked, but never had. It make for a nice transition between the knob and the boot, IMO. I also like the look of an aluminum plate with the H pattern and the skinny rod and lollypop ball look.
