i believe there is a plastic push-in tab down by the pedals, just follow the console down and youll find it, and i think theres one on the passenger side as well, carefully take those out, remove the ash tray, cig. lighter, shift knob, then really easy use a flat tip screwdriver and pop off the silver base, just follow the egdes with the flat head, then i believe there are 4 screws that hold a white plastic piece that has the shift boot stapled or hooked onto it

sorry if this is kind of vague, i haven't done this in a long time, just going off the top of my head right now, if i remember more ill post it for you.

I tried the above steps and for some odd reason I am having difficulty taking off the passenger side of the console. The rest is loose and ready to be removed. Are there any clips on the passenger side? I don't want to apply too much pressure and break something. Thanks!

to change the shift boot, you only need to remove the cover, not the whole thing....it just clips on...

no, the whole top of the shift console just pulls off...you know? the grey part...if you pull the ashtray out you can just grab a hold of it and pop it off...the hard part is disconnecting the wires for the lights and power in the ashtray and cigarette lighter...from underneath you remove the screws that hold the shift boot in place, that ring around the boot is purely decorative, and is like riveted on or something like that..check out lanzer's pic above, you can see the white clips that hold the cover on...you need to take the whole thing off like he did you change the shifter base bushings, but again for the boot, just pop the cover off..

Thanks for the replies and suggestion. I'll try to open the top half once my new Shift Boot arrives. Will post back if I run into any issues.
