Rear deck vibration problem
Rear deck vibration problem
I'm getting a very loud rattling from the rear deck (where the speakers are) because of the sub in my trunk. I can see the whole thing rattling. I also think the air movement from the sub is causing the rear speakers to over-vibrate. Has anybody screwed, glued or otherwise secured the whole thing down? Might also get some buckets for the speakers to seal them off from the trunk. Thanks for any help.
A layer of dynamat should take care of it. If the plastic vibrates against the dynamat, or if you want a cheaper option, a bit of low-density floor padding (the stuff that goes under carpet) should take care of that. Can be gotten for free if you go to a subdivision that's under construction, or ask really nicely at a carpet installer location.
Yeah i have the same problem it pisses me off, and it did'nt happen when i first got my subs, it started about a week and a half ago and now there is a **** load of vibration it sounds like crap. Has anyone done anyhting about this yet?

Think I'll try the foam, dynamat is just SOOO expensive!

if you happen to find the site with the trunk kit, keep us posted, i am looking to dynamat my trunk and possibly put some thunderfoam in the side panels to neutralize out some of the noise..

What? What? I couldn't hear you over the distortion in my car.... I have never owned a car with a trunk before.... All I have ever had before now where trucks, SUVs, and a couple of hatchbacks. Well exept for the Fiero, but putting subs in the trunk of one of those is useless. I have never had to deal with the vibration problem before. In my Jeeps, it was all open so the subs had plenty of air to move. In my Eclipse the subs where installed where the back seat should have been. So now, I have my subs in the trunk, and the whole rear of the car is flexing and vibrating all lver the place. I can actually see my spoiler moving from the front seat when I start to crank the volume. The rear deck where the speakers are vibrates against my back window. Though I do like to get out of the car after a car wash and crank the volume and watch all the water drops shake off of the car....
I know, Shut Up... who wants to hear your music anyways.
I'll go to my corner now....

It'll keep your trunk lid from flexing.
I started to get that too....its not REALLY bad but enough to make me want to do something about it. I only have 2 10's as well.
Here's a thought though...could this have happend JUST because of the cold. I always noticed that in the winter my cars in the past would rattle more. But, come summer it was fine again.
For those who think the Dynamat is too much you can try BROWN BREAD from a company called B-Quiet. Its good stuff and I heard its supposed to be a bit cheaper.
