Question Factory sound system wiring - HELP!

-

Does anybody on here have pics of his/her audio install showing the factory wiring (or anything else related)? I bought reTro's stock audio components (he took the S&S package but just upgraded to a nice aftermaket setup) and I now have to figue out how to install it on my RA (which didn't come with the S&S).

I've found what looks like the subwoofer cable hidden in the trunk where the S&S subwoofer is installed... but the amp wiring is not as easy to find. If I understood the tachnical manual's diagram right, the amp is installed under the front passenger's seat, right? How exactly is it mounted? To what is it attached to? Where is the cabling coming through?

Anybody with knowledge about this please help, I'll be forever thankful... Pictures (lots of them!) would be greatly appreciated.

BTW: I have basic knowledge in electronics (I'm a computer technician), I'm just looking for pratical facts about this specific setup.

Sorry, no pics: I beleive the amp is secured tighly to the floor under the seat with straps - its very tight under there.

I don't have a problem with that... but that won't tell me exactly how to install it either.

So anybody with info? Any hints really...

I'm not even sure the wiring harness is pre-installed on my car. I hope it is... I'll try to spot it this weekend. I hope I don't have to do a custom install. That would s*ck when dealing with an OEM setup...

I just bypassed one of the infinity systems a couple of weeks ago. The amp was under the drivers seat, attached on a steel mounting plate with screws. You will definatly have to take the seat out to get to it.

Do you have all of the stock wiring? If not your task is going to be extremly time consuming...

I still don't know if Mitsubishi runs the wiring for all the Lancers and just installs the components when the audio option is required... or if they only run the wires with the option. If it's the latter, I know I'll be working on this for many hours... unless I can buy the needed harness from the dealers for a reasonable price. But it would really have to be cheap though... I bought reTro's kit because I couldn't afford a brand new aftermarket setup anyway.

The wiring will definatly not be there..this is because the harness behind the radio would be a din plug instead of the traditional harness. This is why people with the infinity sound need the mitsamp interface from soundgate or other companies....

Probably the best bet of to find someone that has either taken out their stock infinity system or has unfortunatly cut off the plugs that you need for the install. (never cut the plugs off)

Thanks for the info...

Well... it sounds like I'm gonna have to do some custom wiring then. But hey, it's only an amp after all... so it's just a matter of getting the signal in from the deck and out to the speakers.

I'm thinking if I mount the amp near the HU, I can then run the signal in via a custom harness, then come out into the factory harness via another custom job. That way I'm only left with running the power and remote from the fuse box.

Even the subwoofer wires should not be too hard to splice in from the front of the car... but if I can't find a way in, I should only be left with one wire to run to the back. Anyway, I'll be installing the subwoofer in a custom enclosure (replacing the spare tire), so it wouldn't be a plug-n-play job anyway.

Well, I guess I'm in for a full weekend of wiring fun when I get the components in...
