I got my 2.5" cat back exhaust with muffler (off ebay) installed for $150. You should see all the gains you need. If you get lucky with the shop you might be able to get an "off road pipe" made for another $50-60. Good luck man.

good gains from 2.5" piping with a good muffler. check out mine also here. The thread is about my custom intake and cat back exhaust.

The muffler itself is the ugly part, not the piping. 2 1/2 could be for the turbo or the "live my life a 1/4 at a time" guys that only drive in a straight line for 13 seconds. But stick with your 2 1/4, use your $$$ for another mod.
